Posted September 7, 200420 yr comment_94103 Changing out my 72 4-speed and r180 to an 82 280zx 5-speed and a r180/4.11. While I have the tranny/dif out of the car what parts should I have on hand to replace the old ones with. Will plan on a new clutch but what other seals, bearings, ect. in either the new transmission or the dif? Can I easily change out the rear engine seal without much complication? Thanks for the information in advance. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13147-needed-parts-for-trannydif-swap/ Share on other sites
September 7, 200420 yr comment_94105 New pilot bearing for back of crankshaft (pack the old one with grease and use a pin "slightly" smaller than pilot on trany input shaft to "drive" out with hydrolic pressure). You will want a new throwout bearing.I believe you will want a 240 clutch which will need the OLD 240 throw out bearing collar and fork with the adjustable slave cylinder rod. Someone correct me if that is wrong, I just recall some have had problems mixing 280 with 240 pieces during this swap. September 7, 200420 yr comment_94108 I think that you need to use the T.O. bearing collar to match whichever Clutch/Pressure Plate (240 OR 280) you plan to install. You might want to do a search using "Throw Out Bearing Collar" or "Release Bearing Collar" to confirm and get more information Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13147-needed-parts-for-trannydif-swap/#findComment-94108 Share on other sites
