Posted April 9, 200222 yr comment_5245 Hey, I'm looking at 240z for my first car, but was wondering what the difference between the models of each year are. From the looks of it, the body shape makes really small changes, but that might just be my crap eyes. But, is there any other engine, gear box etc differences that I should be aware of before looking for my prize? April 10, 200222 yr comment_5269 You might want to spend some time at the IZCC website - there is a wealth of information about Z cars available there.www.zhome.com Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/1316-year-differences/#findComment-5269 Share on other sites

April 10, 200222 yr comment_5283 There are alot of differences in the different years ,but most of them are small. From '70 to '72 the same engine and 4 speed manual trans ., also a automatic was offered . '73 started the emissions standsrds bigtime , with bad carberation and loss of preformance , and the car was heaver , due mostly to all the emissions hardware. '74 came with a 260 engine that tried to make up for the loss in power in '73 more cu. inches and different ignition and I believe the start of fuel injection. From there on untill '78 all had the 280 block and fuel injection. All through the time there were changes in suspention and transmissions going to 5 speed manual. and different gear ratioes in the rear end , and such . so you see there have been develoupment changes and trim design but the same basic body . I hope that answers a few questions . Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/1316-year-differences/#findComment-5283 Share on other sites
April 10, 200222 yr Author comment_5295 Cool, thanks both of ya! I read up at the IZCC website, and found that the better 240z was the 1972 model, so hopefully I can find my self one of these. Its gonna be har tho, I think there are only about 50 Zs in the whole country.
