October 11, 200519 yr comment_141334 Dear forum members,Thank you for the kind words. The Complete Datsun Guide was written a very long time ago and the publisher, TAB Books, Inc. (now a division of McGraw-Hill) had a warehouse fire that destroyed many of the copies. Thus the significantly higher price for the book on the secondary market. It's a bit of sweet irony that the book title is almost literally true. Just after publication, Nissan announced that it would unify its brand image worldwide and eliminate the Datsun name from the North American market. (Interestingly enough, they kept the Datsun name for trucks and small cars on the Japanese domestic market for a long time.) I made little money on the book - just the pittance of the advance - on the other hand, when I interviewed for the job of product information manager at Nissan's ad agency, the book helped me to obtain a job that I held for 12 years at two agencies.I no longer work on Nissan, but would be happy to answer any questions that I can.Best regards,Michael F. October 12, 200519 yr Author comment_141405 Hi Mike,It´s good to be in touch with the author of one of my favorite books. I found the information really interesting as many of the Datsun cars did not come to Europe. I actually bought the book to try and get some information on my CSP311 Silvia but as the book deals with the US model cars unfortunately it was not covered. Though you did not get rich writing the book at least it helped keep you occupied for a 12 years :knockedou For everybodies information I picked up my copy on Amazon.com it cost me a small fortune but it was well worth it.Symon Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13195-i-need-an-american-to-help-me-out/?&page=2#findComment-141405 Share on other sites
October 12, 200519 yr comment_141416 The CSP311 Silvia is mentioned a couple of times in the book, however. As a predacessor to the later Silvia (200SX), that one of Motor Trend magazine's writers traced the original Z to the Silvia (and I might add that Mr. Hollander states that, according to Motor Trend, that Goertz "didn't have a thing to do with it" when it comes to the Z's design), and he also states the over the five year period (64-68) that 554 CSP311's were produced. I have had this book for a number of years and have always enjoyed it. Much more so than 'Petersen's Complete Book of Datsun'. I panicked when I thought that I had lost it while moving to our new house, but it turned up. I had stuck it in the glove box of my truck! October 13, 200519 yr Author comment_141543 Hi SBlake, I saw the Silvia information that you mentioned in the book but I was looking for a more fuller account of the CSP311 history. There is so little iwritten information about these cars. I have been lucky to have been in contact with other CSP311 owners throughout the world ( by e mail ) and they have helped me greatly with the smaller details of the car so that I can get it just right, but I am still looking for a set of orginal hubcaps and a right hand side rear lamp base Symon Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13195-i-need-an-american-to-help-me-out/?&page=2#findComment-141543 Share on other sites
October 13, 200519 yr comment_141560 So now you have two copies? No, I lost the one I originally had when we moved from Upland to Fontana. The one I bought from you is the the one I misplaced in my truck during the Fontana to San Bernardino move.
