Ripped off?

Is it just me having a bad week or would anyone else feel a little annoyed at finding Photos of their car copied out of their Gallery photo album and pasted in someone else's album with new names on them.

If the photos had a description "RB30-ZED's car" it might be ok.

Hmmm.. Moyest is a good guy, I'm sure he meant no ill. But yeah, you have a point. I don't think I'd like my car to be posted in another gallery without my name attributed to it.

No, you are not being picky.

I know exactly how you feel. Happens to me too. I'm currently chasing two members of this site who have taken pics out of my Gallery and are using them on their own websites without permission. It makes things seem even more stupid and pointless when they mis-caption them too.........

I have used Tod Kaneko's 240z to promote www.VicZcar.com if i knew how to contact him I would ask his permission but I don't know how to? I also don't see the harm because I'm not using it to make a profit just promote Z cars. However I have thought about changing it to a members Z car which i would do but on a poor uni student budget can't finance a good enough digital camera to take a good enough photo.

Catch 22 till I get a proper camera anyway.

If there is a dispute on usage of your photo, within this site, first, PM the member who posted the photo, with instructions on what you'd like done (delete, change caption, change description). If that doesn't work, hit the "report photo" button and tell us what you'd like done.

Of course PROVING who owns a photo is somewhat problematic. If you don't want people to use your photo, you might reconsider posting it where people have uncontrolled access to it.

A few thoughts on this...

I could care less if someone were to use pix I have taken for something on their own site or elsewhere. There is nothing to stop them, or anyone for that matter, from doing this. All one must do is right click on the image and select Save As, then it's on their computer. Furthermore, it is highly unlikely that your pictures are copywritten so it is not illegal either. Now what I would be irritated about and seek action against is if someone were using my pix for profit without written permission.

This discussion has come up before when I announced my website. Situation was I got TONS of Z related information and pix from a couple people who contributed. Most of the stuff I did not know the origins of but there were a few items that the origin was obvious (copies of other websites like zgarage). I was informed by a member here that some pix of his were on my site. We discussed this and it turned out to be no big deal and was ok. I personally grab items I find on the web from time to time to keep in my collection because as we all know websites come and go everyday (just as an example it was discussed last year to have someone back up the zgarage site to avoid loosing all of that valuable Z related data); I will certainly give any credits that are due to anything on my site if I have the information to do so.

This brings me to my next point, I do agree that credit should be given though. But again, there's no way to force this action due to the reasons stated in the first paragraph.

I'm not trying to start any arguements but rather just simply stating the facts as I see them.

I agree completely TexasZ I do the same thing all the time. If Tod Kaneko happened to stumble across my site and ask me if I could remove his car from the banner then I would discuss it with him and do what i felt was best.

I'm by no means trying to make profit on it just get fellow Z members together and have fun.

However I do feel credit is important as you say

Take a look at the copyright message at the bottom of this page. Sounds to me as though you and a few other people have not noticed it.

"Profit" has nothing to do with it. Either it belongs to you or it does not. If it does not, then you should not use it. End of story.
