September 12, 200420 yr comment_94831 Don't disconnect it, put a 10k pot on the temp sensor so you can fine tune the enrichment-other wise on a hot day you are likely to have thick black smoke from your exhaust and probably foulled plugs-with the pot, you can adjust the smoke and fouling out.Keep the car in a good state of tune. (Conventional NGK plugs, wires, c&R, valves and filters) Upgrade your coil with that from a Maxima-I'll try to find the year-hotter coil, cheep from the u-pull-it. Run a bottle of RPX through the car occasionally as per its instruction to clean the injectors. Once the car is tuned up and the coil is hotter, play with some of the aftermarket stuff-you may be very supprise dat what a good tuneup can do!Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13224-cheap-triks-for-280zx/#findComment-94831 Share on other sites
September 12, 200420 yr comment_94846 The best coil is the Bosch type. The big blue ones you'll see them on the older V8 Mercedes. They have lots of fluid which keeps them cool and they last forever. I'm gonna get 1 once i've finished my motor. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13224-cheap-triks-for-280zx/#findComment-94846 Share on other sites
September 13, 200420 yr comment_94905 What if I were to put a MSD ignition modual on the turbo engine, it calls for the Blaster 2 coil, (I don't want to sound stupid!) is the coil too much for the NGK Irridium plugs and Tyson 8.0mm wires. Better yet, what if I went MSD all the way with the spark wires. Should not be a problem then, right? Need an opinion. Thanks :rambo: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13224-cheap-triks-for-280zx/#findComment-94905 Share on other sites
September 13, 200420 yr comment_94918 I know nothing about the MSD ignition modules you guys in the US always refer to. Maybe someone else could help you better with that question? September 13, 200420 yr Author comment_94942 Thanks guys, hls30.com that sounds like what I'm after do you know which sensor to modify- the water temp - the air temp or - thermotime switch?Bought a 280zx just for the motor for the 240z I'm going to restore, in the mean time I've done the odd autox in the 280 and its really suprised me how well it goes and handles on dirt, I'm competing against full on Commodore rally cars and doing similar or better times.
