New Tokico's have arrived.

Hey, My new Tokico's have arrived in the mail... for $390 U.S. I was very happy with that because these are not available in OZ. Now which ones go where. (see attach.) Also, do I need that steel sleeve on two of them. And are there any tips, tricks or things I should do during the procedure.

Yes, you need the "sleeves". Those are known as "peg-leg" struts. Tokico quit making the strut that was originally used, so they now modify a strut used on another car by adding that sleeve so that it will fit a 240Z. I don't remember which is front and which is rear,. but I'm sure someone else can enlighten you.

Tips? Be careful when using the spring compressor to disassemble the suspension. The compressed springs store a lot of energy that you don't want released in your face. T H I N K S A F E T Y ! ! ! !

After you install them and get ready to put the nut on you need to pour about 1/4-1/2 cup of 20wt oil (ATF) into the housing. This will help dissipate the heat that the shocks produce and also prevent them from accumulating water which would make your new shocks rust. After you do this make sure you keep the strut in the upright position otherwise they will leak.

Ed makes a good point with regards to adding a light weight oil in the strut housings. Also, when torqueing the nut assembly, that holds the shock in the strut housing, be very careful not to nick the shock shaft. Place a few layers of tape on the shaft or slide a piece of tubing over the shaft to protect it, in case the wrench slips off the nut (which has a very narrow wrench flat area).

When you add oil to the tubes, do not fill all the way to the top. I suggest filling to about 1/2" to 3/4" of the top. Why you may ask?

Because the strut tube does not stand exactly upright when installed. They are canted slightly toward the centerline of the car. If you fill to the top, the oil will slowly seep out until the oil level is below the inner edge of the installed tube. By the time it stops seeping out, your suspension will be coated with oil which will attract dirt and crap and the suspension will look like $^!#,and be a mess to work on, or clean.

Have you got around to fitting the shocks yet? And if you have, what do you think of them? One more question, what springs are you running with it all? I'm still gathering info on all the options before I go out and start spending the dosh, so I'm interested in what you think of your new setup.

They'll be going in this weekend if all goes to plan. They will be setup with Progressive King Springs. Just putting the engine in today but having a biatch of a time lining it all up by myself. Just got the flywheel back from being lightened and the new clutch (as shown). As soon as I know what they feel like, I will send you a PM.
