Jacking the car up reeeeeeaaally high.

Hi all.

Good to see everyone again, I've been settling into school and now have enough time to browse my beloved forums. Here's my latest question, and apologies if I didn't search thoroughly enough. I have a floor jack and jackstands (up to 21" on the stands), and wish to put the car as high as it can go. What is the safe, intelligent way to go about this? With suspension travel, the highest I can get the car is the absolute lowest setting on my stands, which allows me to see/reach a lot, but really not enough room to get under there on my creeper and have at it. Thanks in advance for the replies.

Nate

P.S. Home this weekend from Temple...the undercoating is being blasted off in a few minutes (heheheheh!!!)

A buddy of mine has a floor jack designed to lift high ground clearance vehicles i.e. 4x4s with lift kits. It lifts much higher than any floor jack I've ever owned. And he also has the jackstands to match. I used that combo once. I jacked the car up and placed it on my 4 normal jackstands and then raised the rear with his jack to the heigth of the taller stands and then did the front. Much safer than trying to go from the ground to the tall stands.

I went to a constructions site where they were building homes. Asked if I could have the wood scraps. I accumulated enough 2X4's and 2X6's that I made platforms for the jack stands and the jack. I would jack up the rear with the jack put in the jack stands. Then put some 2X6's down under the jack and jack up the car again. Raise the jack stands with the 2X4's. Then I'd do the front. You probably get my drift by now. You can jack your car up to as high as you want.
