Posted September 19, 200420 yr comment_95645 OK, I have all the basic knowledge of how the turbo system works, and how to incorperate it with my early Z.. BUT!!! One Part I just dont quite get......... "Timing". stock 76' is 8 deg. (+/- 2 )..... 81'-82' turbo 20 deg... and 83' is 24 deg. 1) Why would you Advance the timing on a turbo system??? 2) Can someone help me understand why with a system that you dont want detonation!!, would you have the spark start sooner?? 3) Is there something about the increased cylinder pressures that slows combustion??? or do I have something wrong in my thinking this out?? Any help appreciated, aZcarbum Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13317-help-w-turbo-timing-question/ Share on other sites
September 19, 200420 yr comment_95657 There is more to it tha that. The distributers are different for one thing, The ecm is analog in the NA cars, and Digital in the turbos. Your thinking is correct, but the games are different between the two different sets of engine management systems. I have a '82 turbo running on well on 77 electronics, and it is running stock 77 timing-I have it running a little rich to keep the detonation monster away. That is why most people swap the whole deal, ecm, wiring, and all. Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13317-help-w-turbo-timing-question/#findComment-95657 Share on other sites
