Posted September 20, 200420 yr comment_95737 Zers' Like most of us I go to the wreckers.....often. Woke Sat. morning, after seeing Bonds hit 700, with a bit of a hangover, I had until noon to get home, it was 10:30. I had been to the one in Fremont last weekend, and hadn't been to the one in Hayward in about three weeks. I live about a 1/2 hour from Hayward. I had decided to go for it. I walk in and could tell there was a fresh turnover. Tons of old Datsuns and Toyotas, a 610, B210, etc. Thought to myself, It looked like an all japanese collector gave up on his collection of cars.. It was amazing. And there it was, a 73 240z, It looked like someone began a resto, but gave up. The body was sanded and primer. Yet it was all original. The interior was Butterscotch and mint, the console was perfect, the steering wheel was pristine, the original carpet looked like it had never been lifted! As I was removing this fantastic console, I descovered that the Fuse cover is actually spring loaded, go figure! The fuse block was perfect, I grabed it. Then pulled the steering wheel. It was a good day. I left the Butterscotch interior for the next guy ....hint hint you Bay Area guys. Good door panels, arm rests, and plastic. Then I found these (see pic) in their original position, I've never seen these on a Z, and can't wait to clean them up and put them back into postion! So If your in Haward CA. end of West Winton Ave. and need butterscotch interior bits, get overthere ASAP!!! September 20, 200420 yr comment_95756 Hello everyone! I'd like to preface this post with a big 'shout-out' and thanks to the illustrious admin of this beloved site, without whom this discussion wouldn't even be possible. I think we should each take a few moments each day to turn our thoughts to the guy behind the curtain as they say, the one who makes it happen, the MAN WITH THE PLAN - of course I'm referring to Mike - the PHP wizard of classiczcars.com. Again thanks Mike for making this all happen for us members and the thousands of guests whose lives are geared up a notch each time they visit this place that some of us may even call home. Someone grab that interior and mail it to me. PM for address. September 20, 200420 yr comment_95778 I've never seen clips like that for holding down mats. I'd hate to see the condition of the floorpans considering how much rust is on those clips. September 20, 200420 yr comment_95784 I don't recognize those clips either. They almost look like some sort of spring clip for the lock mechanisms, except that it's a small groove. What was their "original position"? I'd be interested to know.Enrique Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13329-a-day-at-the-wreckers/#findComment-95784 Share on other sites
September 20, 200420 yr Author comment_95788 Escanlon, You know the right angle tabs that you "hook" the carpet onto under the leading edge of your seat. They slide into those. My guess is that these were thrown-away the first time the carpets were removed. I'll have to check the micro-fiche and see if they're in there.Dave Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13329-a-day-at-the-wreckers/#findComment-95788 Share on other sites
September 20, 200420 yr comment_95789 I've seen a couple in cars with original carpet they just help hold the carpet from sliding around....the front carpet had 2 holes that were under front edge of seat right in front of the front seat mount....that fit over a L-like inch wide lip ....not on early cars, but 72-73 cars for sure....After market replacement carpet kits may not have been stamped with opening so clips were thrown away.... Matter of fact these will be my first "experiment" with electroplating system.david Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13329-a-day-at-the-wreckers/#findComment-95789 Share on other sites
