I've been polishing my valve cover for the past few days. And I've noticed that the inside of the cover has a "sealant" around the baffle plate. This "sealant" is also around the vent tube on the outside of the cover. (I'll take pictures if anyone doesn't have a clue as to what I'm talking about.) This "sealant" is cracking and falling off. Does anyone know of any alternative for this or has replaced this with an alternative material that works?

I think I'd consider Permatex #2 sealant. It is not supposed to be affected by fuel or oil. Maybe test a bit of it on a piece of metal and soak it in oil.

Normal Silicone sealant would probably be my LAST choice

The engine that was given to me was running when the car was parked.

The po didt have a valve cover gasket whe he rebuilt it. He just used cilicone. Took me 30 minutes of prying to get the cover off. I wouldnt try it eather.

I was saying i have SEEN it used, But will never use it LOL.

Carl, i asked this question a few months back and you suggested the permatex #2, thats what I used and after abou 3500 miles I cheked it out and it seems to holding fine. Thats what I'd use Ed.

Thanks for the feedback. I think permatex is the winner for the inside. Even though I know JB will work, I don't want it to be permanent. I might use JB on the outside around the breather. :classic:
