Looking for a how to article or discussion about how to cut out and then replace floor pans in my 72 240Z.

Me Too, are there any indepth tech articles, or alternate sites where someone has done a step-by-step replacement with photos?

I have just about finished installing my new RHS floor panel, I had the old panel etc taken back to bare metal then used a spotweld cutter to remove the line of spotwelds along the front and back seams as well as the seat mounts, I then cut along the sill just at the corner where the floorpan bends up and cut along the flat part of the transmission tunnel. I then peeled the remaining side lip off the sill (Just grab with vice grips and tear off) before grinding all lumps smooth and sliding in the new floor panel. A few tack welds before running the jigsaw down the panel on the tranny side to get it all perfect gap wise for a butt weld. So far it appears to have worked like a charm, I will let you know in a few days when its all finished. This is for removing it from the bottom, leaving the front seatmount in for some strength and replacing the frame rail under the floor at the same time.

Butt welds good. Overlapping welds bad. Measure twice, cut once. Don't drink until your done.

I just ran a search through the archives for "floor pan replacement", "floor pan installation", and the member galleries for "floor pan". There is a ton of stuff here. Has anyone produced a video of this process? Is a home made video of this and other rust related stuff worth $20 ? The basic question of floor pan work is real common. I am going to do floor pan surgery on 27 and maybe 26. Everyone seems to agree that Charlie Osborne has the best deal going. Does everyone know seat brackets are available from John at www.baddogparts.com ? Eastwood sells videos of general welding and metal fabricating. I have those and they are very good. Seems all you have to do is spend 11 buzillion dollars on their tools!!!!!!!!!

I have the floorpans from Charlie and the seat mounts from Bad Dog. Just been looking for someone local who knows his/her stuff when it comes to welding. Took a quick welding course, but am not anywhere near skilled enough to do the floors myself. But I think I could do most of the cutting with the school's plasma cutter.

I have seat mounts comming from Charley Osborne as we speak!

I am working on a video, but the new camera was back ordered at the time of the removal of the floors, maybe I will have to find some one close in-say Fla with need of a weekend of mig, tig, and plasma cutting-oh yea, we already have been there!

I bought Zed Findings floors for my car . I only used the passanger side one but it turned out vary good. Charley Osborne recommends that you wait untill you have the new floor in hand before you remove the old floor. To hold the new floor in place for the welder and so I could fit it in place , I used self tapping sheet metal screws . As the welder welded in the pannel he removed the screws and filled the holes. All bare metal was treated and painted with POR , top and bottom. The floor pans come with the center strut support . I used the old seat supports , just used a spot weld remover for the welds on the tranny and rocker , the floor ones I just ground off the metal on a bench grinder.
