Ztherapy??

Ok all,

I'm in a dilemma....My son and I are currently rebuilding a '70 that sat in a field for 13 yrs,

and the carbs were pretty 'gunked' up. I Chem-Dipped the whole mess,

after disassembling the whole thing, but now the housing, though clean,

is fairly corroded and the linkage has lost almost all the plating that remained,

as well has some rust coating (which I did a acid wash to remove most).

(I know this is lengthy...but hold on, I will get to the point)

I just found a local polisher that will polish just the bell housings for $90.....

and then I went to Ztherapy.....

Now obviously, I would love to have all the linkage re-plated,

as well as all of the aluminum polished, inside and out,

(I was considering painting the linkage and lower housings instead)

but is it really worth $600?

Actually since I've taken these all apart,

I figure I could do the rebuild myself for the $400 from Ztherapy (just parts),

but still.....

Scott Wood(I know this is lengthy...but hold on, I will get to the point)

Well, if you can budget the 600 for the ZTherapy carbs they are definately worth it. They do much more than just polish and re-plate the housings and linkage. Every piece of the carb is as good as it was when it was brand new and in some cases it probably is better. They re-bush, re-plate and rebuild every part of the carb. If I ever get the body work on my 71 it's getting a set and I may have to get another set for my other 240.

Consider what a new four barrel carb goes for now and I think you will see that ZTherapy carbs aren't really all that expensive considering the carbs are as good as new. ;)

I was just talking with a guy yesterday about rebuilding carbs. He is a member of the Z Club of Texas. I have had him do a considerable amount of re-plating of parts on my 1970. Any way he said he does similar work as Z Therapy in rebuilding the carbs. Polished, replated, etc., only he rebushes them with teflon bushings instead of roller bearings. He charges $450.00 for the set. Takes him 15 hours to rebuild 1 set. It turns out that he re-did the carbs on the car used by the Franklin mint to make the 240Z model.

Personally, I have not seen a set of his rebuilt carbs. His plating is very good, and with the correct greenish zinc tint. It would be worth checking out.

His name is Joe Barta, and his email address is: Joe Barta [b4burn@yahoo.com]

He is a true Z nut and a real good guy. Tell him that I referred you.

Yea 2Many is right about the ZTherepy carbs if you can get a set. Your old carbs will cover the core charge. If you can get your hands on another set its a hundred bucks of your puchase price. Also they flow better than stock SU's. Stock Su's flow at 150cfm where as ZTherepy carbs flow at 175cfm due to the thinner throttle shafts they make.

I will add my testimonial to the ztherapy carbs. They are worh the money. One issue you must be aware of when rebuilding a stock Hitachi roundtop is that when the linkage wears out it also wears the bushings out and you get air leakage into the throtle body. The bearings eliminate most of this "wear" problem and the performance is great.

You don't have to get the complete carb, for 175 bucks they'll put those roller shafts in (you by a carb body and send in your bodies as a core) then 150 bucks for the rebuild kit and video. video is real good. and boom, for 325 bucks you have z-therapy carbs. Of course your linkedge won't be real pretty.

  • 10 years later...

My Ztherapy carbs arrived today. If you want to see what they look like before and after, here is an example. I obviously dished out a little more for the whole works to be polished and redone, but the carbs would be the same as what you're looking for. I didn't take a picture of the new fuel rail, or linkages, but you get the idea.

What a walk down memory lane.. This thread was started about 7 months after Steve nad Pam took over the business. I can truley own up to the fact that I've never had as much fun in a quasi business setting as I have had being "camp counselor" for Ztherapy. To this day it seems our last job sells our next job (thanks to you all) and the product goes out the door and with rare exceptions stays out. In the automotive field "come backs" are the scourge of the industy and are to be avoided at all costs. However there are rebuilders out there, generally electrical type rebuilders that'll swap out replacement units at the drop of a hat and send you on your way and save money by building everything to lowest standards possible.

Anyway, fun reading this thread and thinking about what a job Steve and Pam have done improving the image and product quality these past 10 years......
