Posted September 27, 200420 yr comment_96551 Can you believe that a new OEM choke plate sold for $494.99 on Ebay, #2490476217? That's unbeliveable. I'm glad that I have one in excellent condition, because I couldn't afford to pay that. I had someone that builds plastic models to redo mine........Keith Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13426-70-71-choke-plate/ Share on other sites
September 27, 200420 yr comment_96557 Did you have him make you a mold and then make you a new pannel? If so you should have him make a few more and sell them on eBay yourself. September 27, 200420 yr comment_96568 totally mad price.I noticed that one of the bidders who pushed the price up ( but not the eventual winner of the auction)was the same guy who bid huge money for early d hubcaps and for the braided radiator hoses. September 27, 200420 yr comment_96581 If you have access to a good choke plate from which to make a mold, you can get some of the silicone molding compounds to make a mold. Then with the various resins, epoxies and other materials out there, make a copy of the original plate.Micro Tool is one company that I know of that specializes in specialty hobby items. They have a large selection of mold making RTV silicones, as well as other types. They also sell the casting material.Enrique Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13426-70-71-choke-plate/#findComment-96581 Share on other sites

September 27, 200420 yr comment_96600 Wonder how much $$$ that "chintzy" little trophy is going to cost him to acquire? It's part acquisitions like this (among other things) that run up the price of a "restoration" to the point where an owner can never recoup his costs. September 27, 200420 yr comment_96601 Micro Tool is one company...............EnriqueMY MISTAKE: Should read: MICRO MARK. They bill themselves as the small tool specialists. 800-225-1066They also have an excellent selection of hard to find SMALL tools, for those of you who work on models, R/C, dioramas, etc.Enrique Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13426-70-71-choke-plate/#findComment-96601 Share on other sites
September 27, 200420 yr comment_96603 Shoot! I have an original choke plate assembly I took out of my 1970 240Z. (I replaced it with one I designed and machined) The original is not cracked or broken. The black texture (OEM stick-on) is a little curled at the edges, but complete. It would need the snap in switches however. I'll double check it's condition tonight and let you all know. I won't be able to post a pic, but you can ask Victor Laury about my integratity (Victor has purchased stuff from me in the past). September 29, 200420 yr comment_96819 For anyone who may be interested.....I checked out my choke plate last night and it is is in really good shape. It has the two slots, one for the choke and the other was not used but covered with a stick-on textured black material, and two locations for switches...one for the rear window defrost and the other for driving lights. The latter two have graphics engraved to show which switch is which. The only imperfections on the plate are...the stick-on material in the slots is gone and there is a tiny ding at the driving light switch hole. Other than that, it is in perfect condition. There are no switches assemblies in the plate. Anyone interested please speak up!
