Posted October 6, 200420 yr comment_97461 Which years came with rubber on the sides of the rear bumper? I've noticed this is not a very popular piece. I'm talking about the piece on the front edge between the body and the bumper.bumperrub.bmp Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13539-rear-bumper-side-rubber/ Share on other sites
October 6, 200420 yr comment_97465 I can understand why it wouldn't be popular. Looks like something to protect the bumper/body from each other in shipping & meant to be removed before a customer saw it. :sick:Does it even show up in the microfiche? October 6, 200420 yr comment_97474 There is an old thread about this - Alan knows a bit about it (fancy that eh?) but the thread is somewhat elusive...I think the conclusion we came up with is that they were common (standard?) in some other markets, and were there to ensure the bumpers wouldn't catch onto things... October 6, 200420 yr comment_97484 All of my literature and photographs show the "rubber-base bumber" on the domestic cars, S30, S30-S, PS30, HS30, and HS30-H. I have no photographs of any HLS30 with the piece. It is mentioned in the North American parts catalogs as 62692 and 62693-E4101. I recall the past discussion and it was mentioned that the rubber was used to keep the bumper from snagging pedestrians. Then Datsun decided on the massive crash bumpers for the 280Z's so they could just ram the pedestrians right out of the way. :stupid: Vicky Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13539-rear-bumper-side-rubber/#findComment-97489 Share on other sites
