Rear bumper side rubber?

There is an old thread about this - Alan knows a bit about it (fancy that eh?) but the thread is somewhat elusive...

I think the conclusion we came up with is that they were common (standard?) in some other markets, and were there to ensure the bumpers wouldn't catch onto things...

All of my literature and photographs show the "rubber-base bumber" on the domestic cars, S30, S30-S, PS30, HS30, and HS30-H. I have no photographs of any HLS30 with the piece. It is mentioned in the North American parts catalogs as 62692 and 62693-E4101. I recall the past discussion and it was mentioned that the rubber was used to keep the bumper from snagging pedestrians.

ROFLROFL Then Datsun decided on the massive crash bumpers for the 280Z's so they could just ram the pedestrians right out of the way. :stupid:
