Posted October 8, 200420 yr comment_97732 Guys,My windows (especially the driver side!) are all err.. cracked? I'm not sure how to describe it. They have lots of vertical lines on them. Anyway, is there any way to repair this? If not, is there any source in Australia for new glass (if you know a place with Z glass they might have K glass too)? Most glass shops (O'Brien and the gang) only do front windscreens. Finally, why does this problem occur?? October 8, 200420 yr Author comment_97734 It's a pretty common problem on old cars, I thought pictures weren't really neccessary - they're long scratches, not cracks sorry. I'll go snap a picture now Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13567-window-glass/#findComment-97734 Share on other sites
October 8, 200420 yr comment_97735 Do you mean scratched? This usually happens when the external rubber strip or the inner top strip on the door panel goes hard/worn with age or you have some dirt inbetween the strips and the window. This then scrapes against the glass as it is rolled up and down.Similar thing happens to the windscreen where you can get get the wipers leaving lines on really old windscreens.I have heard of people getting minor scratches out of glass with jewellers rouge, but I would think replacement would probably be your best best if it is that bad.hope it helpscheersAndrew Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13567-window-glass/#findComment-97735 Share on other sites

For the mean time I will just clean them. Any Australian members know of a source for side glass? October 9, 200420 yr comment_97744 Thanks Andrew! So I should be replacing the external rubber strip and the inner top strip aswell as the glass? No problem!!If yours are original then I would replace them to avoid damaging any new glass you put in.You can get the inner trims separate from the door panels - rzola does them regularly on ebay. You can get the outers from VB or MSA but they are pretty expensive about $70US each side plus shipping etcAndrew Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13567-window-glass/#findComment-97744 Share on other sites
