Unexpected side effect of buying my Z

Guys, the wierdest thing is happening to me when I drive my Z, something totally unexpected and I'm still trying to figure out how to deal with it. Everywhere I go, people look at me. Every time I stop at a red light, people are looking at me. When I park the car at the grocery store, people stop to talk to me about my car. I spent the day with my son today at a lacrosse tournament, and spent at least as much time talking about my car as watching him play lacrosse. I can't go to Burger King w/o having to talk to someone. And the gas station? Good lord. Car buffs come out of the woodwork when I pull up to the pump.

Don't get me wrong - it's not that I don't want to talk to people or dislike them. Everyone is so friendly and they all have a story to tell about the Z their dad or neighbor used to have, or the Z they used to have that was eaten up with cancer, but damn it was a great car. It's just that in a relatively short period of time, I've gone from living in complete anonimity to being just short of celebrity status when I drive my Z. It's freakin' WIERD! Sometimes I feel like I'm driving down the road with spotlights on me, or like I'm in a big glass bubble car like the pope rides in, and everyone wants to wave to me. WIERD!

I guess what's bugging me is I had no idea this would happen. Now I'm almost paranoid when I drive the Z. I guess I'm just going to have to get used to it.

Let me finish by saying I hope this doesn't sound like I'm trying to brag on my car or something because I'm not. I'm just trying to relate to you, my Z brothers and sisters, how owning this car is changing my life. I think in the long run, it's going to be something wonderful that I hope will bring me happiness for many years to come.

Well you do have a nice 240 so i can see why people give you alot of compliments. I often get stopped at the pump mostly by older people who say something nice about my 72. On the road however it seems like anyone in a Honda wants to race me. Those guys with tach's the size of a their heads mounted on the dash, and those mufflers that sound like somone ripping a fart through a megaphone, haha you gotta love em. I guess the sight of a 240 instills jealousy in many people, jealousy and embarisment that they don't have a peice of history, just another cooky cut-out with rims worth more than the car. I can't imagine ever wanting to sell my beloved 240, no it will never happen but i will buy more. Sometimes i imagine a whole fleet of them in front of my newly purchased mansion with fully equiped 10 car gararge and speed shop. Ah what the Z can do to the mind.

I'm with Dan.... I dont get many compliments from people I dont know (actually, I've only ever got 1 from someone I dont know) but I guess its partially because I'm a young'un and the old folk tend not to approach me... also because I've owned teh car for 2 months now and only really drive it to and from school...

If my car looked as good as yours Tom, I'd be pretty PO'd if people didn't notice it!

BTW Dan, you must have really good hearing yet to hear the exhaust over the "noise" emanating from the 3,000 watt amps and 36 inch sub-woofers in those Hondas!

Driving a good looking Z that just shines and purrs along the street is like dating a Tall Beautiful Gorgeous Woman.

If they're not looking at her, it's cause they're looking at you in a) sheer envy, B) jealousy, c) they're evaluating you to see why you merit such a prize.

You've got to learn to take it in stride. As enjoyable as it can be, it can also be down and outright annoying. Welcome to the Club! You're one of the lucky ones, Enjoy The Ride!
