Posted October 13, 200420 yr comment_98096 I am having a time with this topic. A buddy of mine was looking in Import Tuner Mag. and he saw the Lambo door kit for only $999.95. I asked him if he was going to put them on his car. He said no, and that it would look "pimp" if I could do it to my 240Z. I looked at him like he had crabs coming out of his ears. "No way in hell am I going to do that to my car. I am already pushing it with the shaved door handles and plexiglass sail windows. What more do you want?" We argued for a couple of hours. I think, if I wanted my doors to open like a Lamborghini I would have gotten a Lamborghini...right? What say the forum? October 13, 200420 yr comment_98101 was readind hybridZ about same thing last night, pretty heated discussion happening, about practicality, getting in and out, strength of kit, and making door fit properly. October 13, 200420 yr Author comment_98104 That is true, But I just think that the car would not look right with the door in the air. I'd do it, but I woulden't want to catch flack for doing it. October 13, 200420 yr comment_98107 Well I can tell you that we were going to do this conversion on the 77 280Z. The company here in Clearwater Florida that does that is called Decca Doors. It was going to cost almost 2K to do them on an early Z. We were going to let them mock up the brackets on a 78 280Z that we were going to junk. (No test trys on the 77 just incase it didn't work.) The custom made door hinges that go where the stock doors mount to the car were very bulky and would require alot of modification. The early Z metal in that area of the car is not strong enough alone to handle the angle of the doors let alone the added weight 25+ lbs (per bracket) of the fabricated hinges. It was determined that eventually the metal would fail and we'd have problems. Plus the fenders and all this other stuff would have to come off the car. This was back when the Lambo doors were all the rage so things might have improved as far a fabrication for an early Z. But my husband wasn't going to start tearing his car apart after all the money he put into the paint job. No way.FWIWVicky Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13610-lambo-doors/#findComment-98107 Share on other sites
October 13, 200420 yr comment_98109 Wanna see pix of this done to a 350Z? Check this out!! This car was at the Z car show in Sept. here in Texas. http://www.pape.ws/gallery/2004_Capital_of_Texas_Z_Car_Show?page=1 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13610-lambo-doors/#findComment-98109 Share on other sites
October 13, 200420 yr comment_98110 The Decca Door rep was at a car show and the car he was displaying was a Brickyard 350Z. I thought the Lambo doors was quite an improvement on the 350Z. Actually looked pretty darn good. Check out the door space and shape on the 350Z compared to our old Z's and you can see why it's very hard to fabricate (if at all) that mod for our Z's.Vicky Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13610-lambo-doors/#findComment-98110 Share on other sites
October 13, 200420 yr comment_98111 What's the point of these type doors.....bling bling for a show car? Everyone I've ever seen looks pretty whimpy as far as the stability of the door itself. Very wiggley looking! They sure don't appear to provide easier access in and out of the car!? And on a newer car, what effect does it have on side inpact? I say...if you're building a show car, OK.....if you're building a driver, forget about it and spend the cash on performance upgrades. Lambo doors......yah right!!!!! October 13, 200420 yr comment_98119 Thing is, they're not even "lambo doors". Lamborghinis have scissor doors, not these (which are called "butterfly doors" or something). Personally, I think they look stupid! Even more stupid if they cost 2 grand to fit!! Lame-o doors are a better name Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13610-lambo-doors/#findComment-98119 Share on other sites
October 14, 200420 yr Author comment_98138 Okay, okay... I get it, I won't put them on my car! I had thought they wouldn't look right, but I just wanted to get other people's input before I totally got rid of the idea. Thanks for your thoughts! Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13610-lambo-doors/#findComment-98138 Share on other sites

October 14, 200420 yr comment_98152 OK, apparently "butterfly" is the name given to the dual hinged doors such as on a McLaren F1. Gullwing is like a Delorean, and scissor like a Lamborghini... so I guess the closest thing is the scissor door... but I still think it looks a bit daft leaning outwards like that... What you REALLY want is dihedral synchro-helix doors Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13610-lambo-doors/#findComment-98152 Share on other sites
