Posted October 16, 200420 yr comment_98374 Is there something that would cause one or more fuel injectors to be open all the time. Took out all the spark plugs and they are black and soaked with gas. Car runs very rich. Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated. October 16, 200420 yr comment_98378 I'm no injection wiz, but the injectors themselves can fail, the sensors that the computer uses to control the injectors can fail, and lastly the computer itself can fail. Troubleshooting the complete system with a shop manual is the best way to determine what is causing the issue on your engine. Sorry. There really is no simple answer to this sort of thing. October 16, 200420 yr comment_98381 what is the history of the car-sat for 3 years just started up, been running fine and pow, here is the problem, I don't know, she just follwed me home...If we know a little more about her, we can probably do a little better in the suggestion department. One thing to check, get a metal or hard wood rod(even a good sized screwdriver will do) and place one end on the injector bodies one by one and listen to them(put your ear firmly against the opposite end of your probe) you should be able to hear the enjector cycling on and off. You should be able to determine whether they are sticking open, or being driven open. Thoroughly clean your plugs and run her again, and see what you get. Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13648-fuel-injectors-open-all-the-time/#findComment-98381 Share on other sites
October 17, 200420 yr Author comment_98387 Thanks for you suggestions We have a 1980 parts car so we can swap parts to try and solve the problem. What would be the most common parts to fail?? Start with injectors? The car did sit for a couple of years, but when we got it running, it ran well for 1-2 months before developing this problem. We've already swapped, MAF, coil pack, fuel pump, relays, checked all plugs and wires. Thanks for you suggestions Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13648-fuel-injectors-open-all-the-time/#findComment-98387 Share on other sites
October 17, 200420 yr comment_98393 One area to look at also is the themotime switch/cold start valve. A stuck closed thermotime switch or a leaking cold start valve will cause the car to run rich. October 17, 200420 yr comment_98400 If you have rust/particles in the fuel, it might be able to jam the injectors open, and they spew fuel constantly. Backflushing the injectors to clean the tips is one thing to do.
