Posted October 20, 200420 yr comment_98823 i install a 5 spd borg warner tranny and a r200 lsd. my problem is there seem to be no locking ring on the passenger side of the differential and the shaft on the left seem to be longer 'coz the rear tire seem to be toeing in.does the passenger side should also have a ring so that when i insert the half shaft, it should snap in.how will i know i have the right drive shaft. i took it from a 280z and installing it to a 240z. November 4, 200420 yr comment_100628 280's did not come with LSD you might have gotten a VLSD which was in the 88 300ZX SS, and aslo 240sx's they use different length shafts, there is a stop washer in the middle of the unit that'll keep a standard R200 stub axle from going all the way in on one side and the other side has the circlip grove cut deeper then the standard R200 stub axle will reach, if you can take both out, and shine a light in one side and look in the other side, if you see a washer with a hole in the middle you got a viscous unit Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13701-r200-lsd/#findComment-100628 Share on other sites
November 4, 200420 yr Author comment_100688 Hi,you are right it did not come from a 280z it came from an 86 300zx, although nothing recorded in that year with an lsd, it looks like an R200. what i did is i swap the shaft, the shaft i labaled (from the junk yard) right i install it in the left, and i installed the shorter stub in the drivers side/ it snap in (circlip) but the one on the passenger side does not seem to snap on the circlip (it was there in the first place just hidden in the groove) it seems out by 1/4 of an inch. i am already using the car/runs very good.
