Alfadog Posted October 21, 2004 Share #2 Posted October 21, 2004 How about that style of side-sticker Gav? Very nice car indeed, pity about the rear window sticker huh.
Zrush Posted October 21, 2004 Share #3 Posted October 21, 2004 Wow, that is a nice car even though it has a few minor interior mods. Is the muffler suppose to be silver? Don't like the way you can see it from the side shot. I'd powdercoat it black. What is that thing hanging just to the left under the glove box? Very zweet Z :classic: Vicky
sblake01 Posted October 21, 2004 Share #4 Posted October 21, 2004 Doesn't a 7/70 date stamp make it a 71? Heavy use of the MSA order form. The rear splash pan appears to be painted black or is that just the lighting during the photo session? Still, a very nice looking car, speakers in the door and dash cut for the modern type stereo notwithstanding, bumper bar on the rear but not on the front, always liked those headlight covers. 26th-Z Posted October 21, 2004 Share #5 Posted October 21, 2004 That is a very nice looking car. Her Majesty is going to sport those headlight covers. The muffler is not an original type, but I think they were supposed to be silver. Mine is. I would say the modifications are extensive throughout the car, but I don't mind any of them. The big box under the passenger side dash is the air conditioning.
2-4-T-Z-MAN Posted October 21, 2004 Share #6 Posted October 21, 2004 A truly sweet looking ride !!!! Would love to have that one sitting in my garage. Wonder how high the bidding will go for such a clean example of a mostly stock Z.

Gav240z Posted October 21, 2004 Author Share #8 Posted October 21, 2004 I don't get it Stephen it is relatively stock? I think he's saying it wouldn't take much to make it stock again but there lies the problem one persons definition of a stock car is different to another. See what Chris (26th Z ) is doing with his car is taking it to an extreme that I would consider "museum stock" as in it's correct enough to be in a museum. I would consider my Z relatively stock although I know it's not 100% stock esp with an L28 in it currently but to return to stock wouldn't be a huge hassle for me. Anyway maybe I'm going into too much detail here .
Zrush Posted October 21, 2004 Share #9 Posted October 21, 2004 Chris is taking his car back to "Factory" (oh geez, I used that word) specs as much as possible. The ZCCA rules are an excellent example of the different mods/classes for the Z cars. I needed an oil filter for the 240Z. I figured Fram or whatever will do but Scott would not here of it. I had to order (got a couple) OEM Nissan filters with the Japanese writing and all. "We must keep the 72 240Z pure and untouched" he says. Dammit there goes my V-8 swap idea :cheeky: I think that Z on ebay is typical of what most owners did to their Z when they originally got them back in the day.Vicky
sblake01 Posted October 21, 2004 Share #10 Posted October 21, 2004 Okay, the headlight covers, the bumper bar, and maybe even the side stripe. But the Panasports, and all of the MSA type goodies and the speakers cut into the doors I just don't consider 'stock' by my definition. And if we are talking 'factory stock,' which I'm not, it's an even farther distance from that. Hoses, clamps, filters, etc., but that isn't where I was comming from. 26th-Z Posted October 21, 2004 Share #11 Posted October 21, 2004 There is no reason to diss the example on eBay, but it is far from "stock". Way far. I love the "museum stock" reference. Can't wait for some museum to step up and offer me the big bucks - ha! We museum stock guys talk about things in terms of correct, correcter, and correctest. And it is a tough nit-picky conversation! Vicky provides a great illustration - the Japanese oil filter would be correctest.Stock is defined by the ZCCA to exclude just about any modification or aftermarket part. This definition drifts into the "all original" conversation. For my cars, even Nissan / Datsun replacement parts could be different (many times they are) and not correct for the year. Thats why we are seeing huge money being spent on fabric covered hoses and such. Kats just found a correct alternator for his car - very small difference, but what he had was not correctest. The 7 / 70 date could go either way. If the car was sold in July, it was a '70. If it was sold in August, it was a '71. That's why I could care less about "model years". It was built in '70 - it's a '70.
2-4-T-Z-MAN Posted October 21, 2004 Share #12 Posted October 21, 2004 Boy oh boy. I had no idea that my "mostly stock" comment would stir up such additional conversation. Twelve years ago I had a bone stock 72, when I chose to make a working convertible of it. I have enjoyed the experience ever since. There are times now with the scaricity of clean cars that I,almost, wish I had left it alone, almost.. I would love to find a car that was at least "Mostly Stock" To put back into the "Correcter" category. I like the 3 levels breakdown.
