260Zed Posted October 22, 2004 Share #1 Posted October 22, 2004 After checking almost anything to track down my itermittent miss I can think of I am certain that my e12-80 ignition module is cactus  . Nissan wants a stupid amount of money for a new one ($300ish), I can get an aftermarket one from Petroject for $150, or $175 from a zed shop south of the border. What my question is, the GM swap that is popular in the states, has anybody tried that here? I've seen the write-up on zhome, anybody know if the module is on an aussie holden somewhere? And whatever I do get, does anybody insulate them? To try and prolong their life? Thanks for the help.Luke
260DET Posted October 22, 2004 Share #2 Posted October 22, 2004 Pic? On their durability, golden rule, keep 'em cool The Bosch module on mine is mounted with that heat conducting paste on to an aluminium heatsink which is similarly mounted on a inner guard. Up near the front where it can get some cool air flow.
Murph Posted October 22, 2004 Share #3 Posted October 22, 2004 Interesting. I'm chasing an electronic ignition module for my zed too. I did some looking for prices on the pertronix igniter in oz, and I couldn't believe it when the prices I was coming up with were around the $400 mark. That's crazy considering they go for between AU$90-AU$130 in the US. Skimmo was also trying to sell be a crane HI6 ( I think) for ~$320. Way more than I want to spend.260Zed: What's the $150 module you were looking at?
260Zed Posted October 22, 2004 Author Share #4 Posted October 22, 2004 260Zed: What's the $150 module you were looking at?It's from petroject, www.petroject.com.auIn their write up on ign modules they say they only stock "quality brands" Bosch, Ac Delco and Mitsubishi. So i'd assume it'd be a bosch one. They were very helpful with tracking one down, did a lot of running around. So far I think I'll go with it, i'll prolly try and use a heat insulating paste as 260DET suggested, and with a heatsink (ala pc processor heatsink). I'll keep you posted on what I decide.Luke

260DET Posted October 23, 2004 Share #6 Posted October 23, 2004 I've got a Bosch module that used to go with the Wolf ECU, thats why I asked for a pic. Whats it worth?Don't certain electronic distributors from Skylines fit?

I'm running one made by Accel on my 72 right now. Chris
mtdripo Posted October 23, 2004 Share #8 Posted October 23, 2004 I am running the gm module conversion it works great. I used a piece of aluminum from a local machine shop, but before i got that piece I used a galvanized piece of steel. Just use that dielithium grease on the back of the module. This is your ground, then make sure that the surface that you mount your contraption to is a good clean chassis ground...dielithium grease helps here too (the module will fry instantly without a good ground). If you can't find the module try advanceautoparts.com, I think they ship worldwide and the part ws les s than twenty bucks. Hope this helps.Dan

Whats it worth?Don't certain electronic distributors from Skylines fit?Hey Richard, sorry don't have a camera. The module is the E12-80 that sits on the side of zx distributors. Not my pic, but looks like this;http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/distributor/distrib2.jpgIs there a part number on the bosch module that you have? How old is it?CheersLuke
260DET Posted October 26, 2004 Share #10 Posted October 26, 2004 The Bosch module that I have Luke is part # 9 222 067 021. Its around five years old but was only on the car for about 2K max km because the Wolf ECU was unsatisfactory and was replaced with a MoTec which uses a different module. 260Zed Posted October 26, 2004 Author Share #11 Posted October 26, 2004 Well I ended up getting an aftermarket replacement for the original E12-80 module. Exactly the same casing, direct replacement. Can't complain about that! Anyone chasing the same, I got it through Coventry for $99. #IM1192 Year warranty. Bargain considering the same part was $157 at other places.Hehe think I'll take the zed out this afternoon :devious: Luke
san_maru_zed Posted February 27, 2005 Share #12 Posted February 27, 2005 After trying to fire my car up for the first time I think my ign module may also be toast. No spark from coil at all. Might go hunting through the wreckers next weekend and see what I can come up with.
