Stress Cracks on 240z

I went to go look at a 240z today just north of pittsburgh (FINALLY!) and it seems quite nice. the floor pans have been replaced and there is very minor rust on the rocker pannels. There was just one thing that concerned me, there are some cracks on the "B" pillar of the car. They seem to be slightly deeper than the pant, but not much so, and there is no rust around them.

The current owner said that they were there since he purchased the car in 1981. Could this be stress from the frame?

I am looking to buy the car soon, so please respond!

The only comment I would add to the attached thread is that a number of sheet metal forms attach at that seam. Both inner and outer sheet metal. It is a high stress area. Eventually, moisture trapped in the crack will rust the metal and the welded seam, so it is important to get all the old lead out and inspect the seam when making a repair. I prefer replacing the lead filler. Welding is not a filler technique, Freerider. The seam is already welded.

I have a friend who has recently restored his Z he has a half cage in the back and he does drive it rather friendly however it's a fairly common thing with Z's. I wouldn't worry about it.

As Chris said maybe check the area if possible.

I believe what we are seeing is cracking of the lead filler used at the factory to smooth over the seam left from the spot welding of the quarter panel to the roof. After you sand it down it may not be a bad idea to examine these areas more careful to make certain that the metal itself is not fatigued. I don't know if it's possible to repair the lead fill.
