i've been in the hunt for a 240z for about 10 months. i'm willing to pay more for one that's fixed up or restored.what's everybody's oppinion on this one?(price wise)

what is meant by ported engine -are triple carbs necessary(could i go with duel carbs?) thinking of driving up(450 miles) to have a look.

A bit spendy, but then again the pictures that he has posted seem to warrant it.

The triple webers can be a lot of fun, as long as you are knowledgeable on how to tune and balance them. My car had a pair of webers and my mechanic suggested I return to the two SU's. I did and haven't been happier.

As far as a ported engine, from my very limited knowledge it means that the ports (not sure if exhaust or intake or both) have been ground smooth and polished so that there is little to no resistance to the air stream flowing through them.

By the way, his ad says he has a carburator per cylinder, he doesn't , it's one carburator per pair of cylinders.

It looks gorgeous to me! I think a minimum opening bid of 12k may seem a bit steep, but not out of line for NADA valuation of high end (but not 100-point) restorations. At least, it's steep for my pocketbook!

As usual, look before buying, check for receipts of work done. Is he serious about 15xxx miles (naturally skeptical)

I remember recently some "perfect" restorations going for more than 12 on EBay, but they didn't have an altered head and triple carbs, nor did they have the non stock wheels, air dam and rear spoiler.

Good luck on the roadtrip, and color me green if you get it (lime green, that is)

Looks like a real nice car. If it has been restored like he said then it should be well worth it. Maybe even a bargain. Wondering about the leather seats he mentions. Too bad it's not closer other wise I'd be tempted to go see it with you. Good luck on getting her!

Ported engine means he had the intake and exhaust runners on the head cleaned up for more efficient air flow. This is mainly for performance gains.

Go look at it Patrick. 450 miles is not far to drive for a potential purchase. Check it out thoroughly as it has been used in rallys and it's in snowy Canada. I think it's beautiful 'cause I have one the same color, #112 Lime-Yellow. 12k is pricey, 10K maybe. You never know, this could be the one!

I agree, 12K sounds a bit pricey, even for one totally refurbished. What you do is if he doesn't get any bids on this, and you have already driven up there and looked at it, see if he will take an offer of say 10K or so. he might be more open to that if you can come up with the cash and he knows you're a Z loevr and it'll go to a good home! good luck

having read the thread on" how much $$ have you spent on your zed(s)" this seems to be a bargin. some of you have invested twice and sometimes three time as much $, and most have invested at least as much as $12000. this car seems to be built for racing and i just need one for crusin.

I think alot of the price can be based on where you are located as in are there many rust free ones or many of them at all for sale, and also you have to take into consideration that fact if its truly as nice as the pics point out you would have to do very little to make it a fun road car, if anything. I don't think 12k is out of this world as a price , but as a daily drive I would say no but it you want a trailer queen or one to park in the living room yes

i agree that 240z are rare up here and the prices might be a titch higher.it won't be a daily driver but i'll use it as much as possible for 6 months from may till october then store it in a heated garage during the winter.my theory is to drive it and enjoy it. my thoughts run along the same line as what cnixzgo suggested.( that is to check it out- wait for auction to end and hope it dosen't sell - then try and deal privately.) the consensus seems to be that starting bid is high. if someone does bid though i might have to jump in.

well- i drove up to look at the zed over the weekend.the guy lives in a mansion that makes jed clampett's house look like a tar paper shack,placed on a 500 acre farm.( now i know what he meant by go to the south gate)he's kinda like the ted turner of canada,owns a cable company and he's only 47.we go out to the other garage and when he opens the door, inside is the zed(my knees buckle) she's gorgeous!!!!.looks better in real life. it took a while to sart because it's sat for so long.kept pumping the gas. i told him to use the choke but he says u don't need to with triple carbs.finally got it going.he says it's not legal(no insurance, maybe reason he didn't let me drive) but we'll go for a test drive anyways, it'll be ok here.( we're located in the sticks somewhere between hootersville and pixly).he winds it out to about 80 mph. to me i seems to ride like a lumber truck. u can feel every bump in the road and it's kinda noisey.he tells me it'll run smoother with the original s u carbs on.get back to the mansion and he says he's the price is negotiable.i ask what about ebay. he'll just end it since there's no bids, he says. anyways we get within $1000. i'm at $12000 he's at $13000.( mini dollars -meaning canadian) he's got the original carbs( i'm thinking flat heads- don't need another boat anchor)that go with it.put the zed away and we look at the carbs and they're round tops.he says i can switch them and get $800 for the triples. all the while i'm thinking the guy's going to change his mind and accept my offer.( what's a grand to a millionaire) i say i have to think about it and talk to the wife.i'll kick myself if i lose this over a $1000. i'll never find another in this good of condition in canada. so i call him when i got home to accept his offer but had to leave the message on his machine. now i'm waiting for the call back. what do you all think- too much $$??

I'd say, based on what you wrote, go for it! 12-13 grand seems steep initially but it sounds like you won't need to spend much money after the purchase. He's throwing in the original carbs too! Does he have all the hardware? Air cleaner, linkage, balance tube, etc? If it looks as clean to you close up as it does in the pictures, and you're satisfied with the way it runs/handles I wouldn't let it slip by. After further reading the answers to the questions, it was a rotisserie restoration, it has a new dash, paint is original color apparently done right, if you have seen this car up close and can verify all of this to be true I would only have one question? Why didn't you pay him that day and drive it home? You couldn't duplicate this car for $13000!
