Engine has problem- metal pieces & shavings in bottom of pan. Pulling engine, replacing with another. Engine that was pulled has been completely balanced, racing cams, bored to 3,000cc & we need info on how,& how far we can go without spending a fortune. Drop it back into the '75. Thanx if you reply. What are you asking ? Are you in doubt as to weather a rebuild is nessary? How was it that you found the metal shavings ,magnetic drain plug? You said that you pulled the engine already , pull the pan and have a look at the main bearings and the crank journals This should tell you alot. If the mains are scored then the crank must be turned and new bearings . same for the rods. Really the engine should be dissassembled and hot tanked and cleaned of all debris . The shavings came form some where , was the block hot tanked before the assembly the last time ?

As Beandip put it-"the engine should be dissassembled and hot tanked and cleaned of all debris". Hopefully it was just debris that the builder missed and hope it didn't go through the motor. If the motor had all that time & money put into it, why wouldn't you at least dissassemble and freshen-up again? Not sure how much longer it will fly like that.

Sounds like bottom end bearings as Beandip was saying. I shouldn't imagine it would affect the top half of the motor too much unless you've got a huge drop in oil pressure and been driving it like that for a long time.

Spend the money rebuilding this one provided it was built properly have the crank inspected maybe find an LD28 crank and that will take it to 3.1ltr :).
