What could / would you buy to replace it?

A deposit on a house I guess. There is always the chance that I'll buy a '67 Fastback which next to a 240 is my dream car.

I could cope if I had a Fastback

After I sold my first Zed, I thought I did the right thing, you know I needed the money and all. Then for every day after that I missed it so bad. Everytime I got into a car, I missed that old car smell.... That oil and fuel fragrance, the things that make you proud of what your driving. The Datsun Z car is "A piece of Automotive History" as my Dad would say, and the only way to replace it was....... with another.

Nice. I won't be missing the fuel fragrance. Could have something to do with the fact that it chokes me after about 30min driving. Cracks in the extractors

I dont like to think about how much money I've spent in the process either.

My whole life I have been burning money with cars. Maybe that's tempting me to sell it. I have my go-kart racing which satisfies my thirst for speed so...

there is an easy way to solve the problem, George get your favorite c/d or tape , about 11pm or midnight or so go out for a nice spin throught the country or in town which ever you enjoy most

I'm kicking myself for even thinking about it believe me. Never did I think I will want to sell it and I don't really.

All night I have been walking the steps down to the garage and staring at her. Pop the bonnet - grin. Sit behind the wheel - huge grin. Walk back up - walk back down. I even got the tape measure at one stage and started planning for some work I need to do in the boot. I can't be selling her. I must be going nuts.

Bah. I know I will never ever be in a position to own such a Z again so the decision won't come lightly. It'll have to be tempted with heavy wads of cash. Hopefully the kind he can't afford.

Anyways, thank you all so much for trying to steer me. In my heart I know the right choice is to keep her, but sometimes common sense is clouded by the heart.

The guys are right. You will never be able to replace this Z. And you WILL regret it. In the land of OZ it will be even harder, due to the limited number that are available. And when you just have to have another one, and you will (these cars get into your blood & there is only one cure) it will cost you way more than the small gain you might get now.

I too have been there. Although, I didn't sell my first 240Z, it was lost in an accident, I never could get the car out of my mind. I did the responsible thing. Took the insurance money, bought a house. Then got married, had some kids, ... more houses. About 11 years later, the Z disease came back in a BIG WAY. I just HAD to have another. Now I had to convince the wife that this was a good idea. Not so easy. But she was a good sport and finally said ok. It took me over a year to find a suitable car (early '70), and this is in the US where we have a much larger supply than you. After 6 years of work, I just about have it where I want it to be.

As I said before, the Z disease came back in a big way. Last year I bought a second 240Z, a '71.

So, speaking from experience, I would not sell it. There are ways to get more money for a house, but not very many ways to get a good Z.

You will never regret keeping the car, but you will always regret selling it!

I would have to be on the bones of my arse to sell my Zed. Mine is in bits and worth nothing but still it will be worth tens of thousands to me.

I sold a previous car that I poured money, heart and soul into and have regretted it ever since (another 72 Dastun). Now I have the Zed, I'm as happy as parting with massive money that I know I have no chance of recovering. I simply don't care. The fever simply won't let me part with it. How could I dream? Like Marty, the pull of another would have you in its grip.

Money is nothing! You can always get more of that stuff, but you can't buy great Zeds easily.

The "gut feel" instinct is REAL. DON'T DO IT!!!!!

I'm sure that might help you make a decision.

Contrary to what everyone else is saying sometimes other things in life are more important. Maybe later you can build your own Z how you want it although your current Z is how many would want it. .

Just make sure if you do sell it the buyer is based in Melbourne so they can join VicZcar .

I think it really depends on how much the person has offered. If it's fair market value and you love the car then I'd say don't... you'll probably regret it. Then again, if the person is prepared to pay WAY over what it's really worth, then why not?

If it's enough to recreate the car and then some, surely you could rebuild it better and iron out the bugs, do an RB swap instead (or whatever takes your fancy). You say you could buy a fastback Mustang. A decent one of those must be $30-40,000 Australian right?

The buyer is local. He's actually an older brother of a friend of mine.

heh. No way will I be able to do a better job than Alex did and it's not possible to do the same conversion anymore due to some law changes 10 years ago.

A decent Fastback would set me back around $30k so yeah...

I don't know you, you don't know me,but the mear fact that you posted this thread says volumes about the thought of selling. Deep down you don't want to. I had a situation in the past where I was offered a good price. He drove the car, and then fanned out all these $100.00's. And just as I was handing over the keys. I thanked him and said no-thanks! Since then I've had the most fun doing new things to the car. My two kids fight over whose going to get it when I die. Can't sell a family member.

I hope you make the right decision. Oh and I had a mustang----not the same at all.

I bowed to pressure to sell my car ("need a reliable car for college," "you won't miss it," "people enjoy Hondas, too!," blah blah blah) and regretted it for 17 years. Finally made right with fate when I bought my 72 earlier this year, now all is right in the world (The Sox won the Series, right?)

Anyway, unless your marriage depends on it or you need the cash for an organ transplant, I would not sell. 17 years has taught me that much...
