Door Strikers

Hi all. I just got back from picking up my doors I won on ebay. Funny thing, the strikers are different. Those that are on the car are the round ones, the ones on the new doors are the slotted kind. Now, I have spent too much money and time just to toss them. Is there a way I can take the slotted striker off that year of car and apply it to my Z, or would I have to fab me a set? I plan to use door poppers and shave the handles so most of the handle hardware will not be used. I need some options. Thanks :tapemouth

No. There is no way. The "strikers" aren't the only thing thats different. If you look closely, you will see that the doors you bought are actually shaped differently than the doors on your 72, where they meet the threshold. If you put 75/78 280Z doors on a 240Z you'll never get them to seal in the opening.

Put them back on e-bay and find a set of the correct doors for your car.

sorry,

Carl

I just measured all parts of the door, and they all match up fine. I'm not sure what year car these doors came off of. The only differences are the strikers, and the top bracket on my CAR has 2 holes, and the DOORS have 3 holes. Could there be a chance I could swap "skins" of the doors if I can't get the striker issue resolved?

You might be able to swap skins, but to me, the amount of work entailed in that would make it not only prohibitve but also ...bluntly...stupid.

By the time you remove the "new" skin, you'll either have used the grind the edge off and hope to re-weld onto the new frame, or you'll have spent a lot of time popping off the welds and bending the lip. In either case, you will have some bodywork to do. If, what is wrong with your doors now is that you have some rust, you'll be money and time ahead by just repairing the rust than trying to do a skin change.

As Carl said, go buy the correct year. If all you need is the skin, check with either MSA or V/B.
