Difference between Victoria British and Motorsport

I was looking thru my catalogs for a new brake booster for my '72 240 and Motorsport had it for $US330, while VB had it for $126.

How can there be such a disparity in price? I can't believe the quality would be that different. I could imagine a 10-30% difference, but +100% ???

Isn't there some sort of disclaimer, for lack of a better word, at the begining of the VB catalog that states they are in no way associated with Datsun and/or Nissan? I've always thought VB had non OEM items. I haven't seen one of their catalogs in years so I could be wrong.

They both cary some of both oem and aftermarket, and indicate which is which. Neither is affliated with Nissan. I shop both and somethings are cheeper at on or the other, but both really seem to want our business. Fortunately, of the things I have ordered, all have had a dramatic price or availability difference, so there was never any decision as to which to buy what from. I have had terrific service from both-in the absence of she who will remain nameless...

my Z restore won't be for a perfect show car and if I can save $150, I'd rather buy the VB brake booster. With these in mind, should I have concerns about non-OEM in general?

I suspect the only difference is that the non-OEM will tend to fail sooner. That being said, I wouldn't worry too much. Even if the brake booster fails suddenly you can still stop the car with extra pedal effort. I'd actually be more worried about the master cylinder or other braking components that could leave you doing some rapid downshifting while yanking up the parking brake.

IIRC, VB sells remanufactured oem units while Motorsport Sells new aftermarket units. I purchased one in 1998 for my 78 from VB and it is still problem free to this day.
