Posted November 4, 200420 yr comment_100620 I've got a 77' 280Z. ˆjust noticed today that the volt meter is reading below 4 (the very bottom of the guage). i know it still is getting power, because the red charge LED lights up when i start the car. Is there an easy way to get this out to see what the problem is. the car starts and runs fine, so i know its the guage. are there some wires i can check? The hazard lights also no longer work. November 4, 200420 yr comment_100653 Sounds like something is dragging the voltage down somewhere. Put a volt meter on your battery without the engine running. i.e no load, take a reading. Then take a reading when the engine is running. i.e when the alternator is charging the battery. You should see about 13volts on charge and about 12 on no load. Also check the battery cell levels.Funny things can happen when batteries start to die.If all is OK then start pulling fuses to try and isolate the circuit that might be at fault. If everything else is OK then someone else might be able to help, I have little knowledge of 77 280 electrics, sorry.Give it a whirl.
