November 8, 200420 yr comment_101109 No, there isn't any difference in what happens if your vehicle collides with anything, it's just common sense to say that when you have that many more cars in an area, like in west-coast cities, you gotta lave some laws to keep order & safety, or to deal with pollution, or you'll end up with chaos. You don't have to be an expert at anything to know that.I do feel that every car, whether OEM built or custom, should have some safety equipment like seat belts & bumpers, even if they can't be made up to the current standard(s). Emmissions tuning or equipment too. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13915-hot-rods/?&page=2#findComment-101109 Share on other sites
November 8, 200420 yr comment_101120 Does anyone really think Boyd's "Alumatub" was built for the street? Most likely a trailer queen showcar. As to the other issues, isn't there a federal agency thet dictates standards for new production cars and then states come up with specific laws for their own issues? On the safety equipment point, here in Florida we have a seatbelt law and a bumper height requirement law.In each case the law is upheld based on the equipment at the time of manufacture. This way Big Brother isn't taking away from our freedom completely.Should every car have seatbelts and bumpers? From a safety standpoint ,yes. From a freedom of expression standpoint, NO! If a builder wants to have a car that is period perfect and seatbelts don't fit then they shouldn't HAVE to be installed. There was a whole generation of then legal Hot Rods that are now being reproduced. Let the builder choose his look and standards.Forcing standard on vehicles such as these is just another way of some group trying to rewrite history!!! November 8, 200420 yr comment_101123 On my repro '72, Nissan put a sholder harness on the car. Did they actually come with that in '72? I know they had the lap belt but I didn't think the shoulder harness was standard equipment in '72 (for any car). This is the kind that connects together so you can either use both or just the lap belt.Vicky Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13915-hot-rods/?&page=2#findComment-101123 Share on other sites
