'70 240Z...

I’m having trouble removing the rubber brake hoses. I sprayed some WD40 on the fittings and put a 10mm wrench on the fitting on the metal tubing side. The nut fitting is starting to round off so I stopped. Do you have any tricks or do I just grab it with a pair of visegrips?

Thanks

10mm Flare nut wrench, or vice grips. (use something else besides WD40)

or

I have taken a 10mm box end wrench, cut the box off of it, then cut a "small" gap into the box. (so it is similar to the end of a flare nut wrench but thinner, & more flexible) I then put that piece on the fitting and use vice-grips to clamp the "box" down tight and loosen the fitting. It works pretty good, but the "box" will eventually break (I've gotten as many as 20 uses out of one of these)

I just went thru the same problem putting new front calipers on my 280Z.

Ended up replacing the hoses and the hard lines up to the proportioning valve.

Vise grips were the only thing that worked, all the hard lines twisted and broke. Good Luck!

Buy a good wrench, chase down the tool truck, this is not a job for harborfreight, Craftsman, or Home Depot tools. plan to spend some money on this flarenut wrench!

Hey! Craftsman tools are just fine!

However, WD 40 and a 10mm wrench are not. PB Blaster and a flare nut wrench. This nut is securing a hydraulic line under pressure. It is supposed to be extremely tight.

Just replaced my rubber hoses with braided.

First one would not come off and ended up destroying the steel pipe as it twisted because I used a crappy flare wrench.

Now I have to get a new pipe made as Nissan no longer sell them.

Now have a bloody good flare wrench - the rest came off fine.

Lesson is that the flare wrench is the key if it is tight. If stripped pull out the vice grips but be prepared to buy a new pipe.

Craftsman tools are fine-except the flarenut wrenches-went through several to get one that did not flex, when it gave up, I chased down the Matco truck, and bought the one I have had for 10 years with never a flex.

What is a new line setting you back?

My chassis rail extensions foul with my fuel and brake lines, so i may need new ones made too.
