steering assist

Well, me being only 16 has some faults. I got my permit in july, and have been dviving the family nissan maxima (2000 SE 5 speed stick). Lately the 240 has been running poorly, and dad didn't want me to drive it. Yesterday we got it running a little better and I finally drove it. WHAT IS WITH THE STEERING!!! I knew it would be heavy, but damn!!! My dad says the steering assist does not work very well amy more, and it used to be better.

How should the steering assist be fixed?

Thanks

Dan

Ps; nonetheless, it was way, way better than the maxima!

Dan,

I hate to break it to you but the 240 does not have steering assist. It will be difficult at a stand still but once the car is moving steering should be pretty easy. Check your tire pressure that might help a little. Otherwise it's all muscle.

I dunno what the go is, but I've never found the steering in my zed to be particularly heavy. Sure it needs a little muscle when parking etc, but not that much. When moving it quite light, unless you really push it HARD into a corner and speed, then it loads up a bit. This is with sticky 225s on the front and a smaller after market steering wheel btw. My old dead stock sigma had substantially heavier steering.

Aside from that, another reason the zeds do have heavyish steering is that they do have a fairly quick rack.
