Ever Wonder How Far People Will Go To Get A Z Engine?

Here's a nice example of just how far one of our members is willing to go to get a new engine for his Z. The story is that he just moved from Houston to Austin and shortly before doing so he had put a junk yard engine in his Z. Now that engine has died and the car is in Houston. Enter me. I had a complete running engine for sale but it was in Austin and his only car between he and his wife was now a Neon.

Hmmm...how to get a Z engine from Austin to Houston when the only mode of transportation is a Neon....

Take a look at these pix for the answer!

Suprisingly it wasn't all that hard to get in there...I can't say about getting it out as that was not part of the deal. :D

Hmmmm. So how did you get it in there? Looks pretty awkward and heavy to get into a back seat!

So, did he buckle the setbelt to keep it safe!??

Marty

It was on a trailer that was placed as close to the door of the car as possible (about 8" away) and one guy in the car on one end of the engine lifting and pulling and a second guy on the trailer at the other end of the engine lifting and pushing. Moved it a few inches with each go at it and it only took about 5 minutes to get in there once the proper method was determined.

He did tie it down with some rope so that it wouldn't end up on the front seat.

Thats quite an improvement to the neon.

Actually thats pretty dangerous, if the car was in an accident, it would hit front seats with a couple of tons of force.

If you are in the habit of having a box of tissues on your back shelf, in an accident it's like having a house brick smack you on the back of the head.

Agreed on all points! I'd never do this myself; then again I have a pickup and trailer at my disposal and he didn't.

I've taken L4, L6, FJ & SR engine blocks to the local workshop in the back of dad's 510 (4-door of course!). We took the seat squab out & put a wooden board in its place, wrapped a few seabelts around it. Yes it's bloody hard to get them in & out - I can't imagine doing it with a complete engine. And curses to mum who had the only car in the family with a towbar at the time.....
