November 11, 200420 yr Author comment_101659 I have emailed Magnecore for cost, and hunted up a local dealer for NGK, MSD, and Taylor.I also emailed all four manufactureres about what makes theirs better than the other 3. The results should be interesting, if there are actually replies. I think Magnecore had posted the best info and argument, and hopefully, we will see who has the best product. Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13953-what-makes-a-great-plug-wire/?&page=2#findComment-101659 Share on other sites
November 11, 200420 yr comment_101675 I have always used the NGK wires on my L engines. Nary a problem. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/13953-what-makes-a-great-plug-wire/?&page=2#findComment-101675 Share on other sites
November 18, 200420 yr comment_102303 I use Taylor 8.0mm in conjunction with NGK plugs (#BPR6ES). No problems with them. I take it back about the wires! Tonight I noticed the car was running really sluggish. I don't remember if it was this post or not, but someone said that the Taylor wires he was using were "shorting out" to his cylinder head. I decided to check it out on mine. It was doing the same thing. I could see the blue sparks were the wire boots meet to the plugs. So, I was woundering what the part numbers for the MSD, NGK and Magnacore wires were. November 18, 200420 yr Author comment_102333 I received 2 sets of Magnacore Part #6524 (Datsun/Nissan 240Z, 260Z, 280Z, 280ZX, 810, Maxima 1970-84). These are the KV85 Competition 8.5mm wires, direct they were $112.54 a set. I think they can be bought for less at some of the internet/mailorder vendors. They appear to be excellent quality, and they come with two pages of how to use, and take care of them, a primer on other causes of ignition problems, and a warranty that is not time limited! I almost forgot the super deluxe oval magnecor Sticker(suitable for framing-or covering a mar in paint on the day of a carshow)! The number one consergn on an L series engine would seem to be the condition of the plugs! Great wires cannot make up for bad plugs(worn or dirty). #2 is pulling the plugwires off while the sparkplug is hot, and not either letting the plug cool, or re-tensioning the connector. WillP.S. Exertpts from my emails with Magnecor:"All the prices follow, although from your description our 8.5mm cable is your best choice. Also, these are standard length sets with stock coil wires - if you need something different to stock you should let us know.Electrosports-70 7mm cable, part number 6724 - $56.68Electrosports-80 8mm cable, part number 6024 - $63.73KV85 8.5mm cable, part number 6524 - $107.18KV85 CN series 8.5mm cable, part number 6324 - $112.54R-100 10mm cable, part number 6924 - $146.57The "CN series" cables (which are not available for some applications) are special versions of our 8.5mm and 10mm cables that provide extra RFI suppression and are mainly intended for ham radio, CB radio and similar installations with unusual noise problems; the CN series cables do not help with most other applications and take longer to ship because CN series sets are always made to order - they are never in stock.USA: Shipping cost to US ZIP codes is $5.00 for most retail orders (including Hawaii, Alaska, APO/FPO addresses, Guam, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands), we usually use UPS Ground services or Priority Mail. THESE CHARGES WILL BE CHARGED TO YOU AT THE TIME OF DELIVERY and can be high, so anyone choosing to have goods shipped to Canada should beware.
