What about just replacing the motor, and refurbing the mechanism, and putting teflon bushings in?

Teflon bushings? In the R and L Pivots? In place of the spherical bearings on the Operating rods?

My thought was fire proof, vermin proof, self lubricating, very low wear, and never, never, needs painting-for those too far gone to clean and re-lube(like mine!) Use in all of the pivots-but of course, there are always replacements from a later parts car...

I just felt the need to make something else too damn complicated-two hours at the lathe (between diapers) to cut off the spring perch such that it would fit over a coilover collar and be .0825" to small will do that to you...or, at least to me.

When I took mine apart, only the Pivots (looked to be bronze bushing) had much corrosion due to dried out grease. The Spherical bearings in the Operatinng Rods (also bronze) were/are in great shape. I do have spare parts now "just in case" something goes bad in the next 30 years. (If I last that long)

AFAIK, All the pieces in my linkage were steel. I took everything apart, except the pivots (oops?) and I used the teflon washers on the connecting pins, under the c-clips to replace the shims that was worn away & rusted. They happened to be the right thickness, and shouldn't rust.

I was referring to brushless motors as magnet-less because that's how Daniel was referring to them. I have one of those too, in one of my r/c boats. I like the simplicity of brushed PM motors.

I'll have to check further (not going to do any metalurgy tests), but the spherical bearing didn't look like steel on my two sets of rods.

my wipers are slow and i will try re-lubing everything but does anyone know how to get them to stop down the bottom? mine keep stopping about 10inches from the bottom of the stroke and they get really damn annoying.

remove the nuts that secure the arms to the pivots. Re-set the arms to near the bottom of the windshield. re-install the nuts.

To "re-lube everything" you will need to completely remove the entire Wiper System (including the wiper moter, operating rods, and pivots) from your car. Disassemble everything (except the motor) clean, remove any corrosion, regrease and assemble everything, then install it all back into the car. It's not terribly difficult, but does take more than a few hours and must be done carefully to get everything back together correctly so that the system operates properly.

sorry forgot to say this but when the wipers are in motion they go to the bottom of the windscreen its just that when you turn then off they dont stop on the bottom.

Well, that's a different story. It could be that the a part of the connector to the wiper motor is broken; or that it has been taken apart previously and not re-assembled correctly. Was it working correct, then suddenly started working wrong? Or has it always been workig wrong since you got the car?

Hey, at least it's summer where you are. I have been slowly working on a Tech Article on rebuilding the Wiper system. Priority is a bit low at the moment, but I'll get it done eventually.

it wasnt working properly when we got it but the aesthetics of the car didnt mean much to the previouse owner only the go-fast bits. what doesnt make sense is that the wiper blade swings the whole length and occasionaly stops at the bottom with a bit of patience but that it normally reaches the bottom and then climbs back up before stopping. considering the motor is going to be out anyway when i freshenit up i'll have a look at it then.
