Posted November 29, 200420 yr comment_103490 Anyone out there in "Z" land used this product before? Was thinking about getting some and trying it out. (In comparison to POR-15) Have enclosed a comparison chart showing top three corrosion control products used in the product comparison. In case anyone wants to check out the website info and related stuff here's the url:www.rustbullet.comwebdawg1Rust Bullet Comparison.doc Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/14155-rust-bullet/ Share on other sites
December 12, 200420 yr comment_104860 i used it on my z ... i have also used the por 15 ... the tests on rust bullet show it to be better than por 15. but ... i say to each their own ... the rust bullet is easier to use and you don't have to buy all the cleaning products as you will with por 15. the rust bullet supposedly chemically bonds a layer of aluminum into the rust, so it not only seals it, it chemically alters it. i used the rust bullet to protect the areas on my floor boards that had rust on em. i also used it to make repairs ... small rust through holes that appeared when cleaning for the rust bullet ... used a wire brush and worked the floor ... opened up some holes about the diameter of a pencil ... i used the rust bullet and fiberglass matt to make the repairs .. no special cloth, as the por 15 requires. to apply the rust bullet ... get the area free of tar, oil and paint .. remove the flakey rust, get it fairly clean ( not half as clean as it has to be for rust bullet ). paint it on ... with rust bullet, you do not need to thin it ... one can spray it on if so desired. it is easier than por 15 to apply, can be sprayed without thinning, needs less prep work. again, i've used both products ... i can't say for sure whether either really works, just going by the test results the chemists put out. but, as both products ( por 15 and rust bullet ) seem to do the same job equally well, i will use the one that's easier to use, and that's rust bullet. December 12, 200420 yr comment_104865 Biased comparison anyone? Lets see. They don't list requiring any cleaning agent for rust bullet. Bull $^!#. Of course you need to clean it. When using POR15, metal ready is only required if you're painting onto clean/fresh metal. If painting onto a rusted surface it's not required. Lastly POR15 only requires a top coat if it's in a spot where it is exposed to direct sunlight. Seriously, where are you going to use it on your car that will be exposed to direct sunlight and wouldn't get painted over anyway? December 12, 200420 yr comment_104872 I have never heard of Rust Bullet, but I have seen POR15 in action. That is some good stuff. I don't believe I have ever heard anything negative about it on here. The "other" board I spend time on for off roading types, also has had some discussions about POR15. Buddy of mine coated the entire underneath of his Bronco with it. Loves the stuff, and swears by it. A few Z's I have looked at, have had various repairs done with the POR15. Those on the body, are able to be finished and painted to where it is not noticable at all. As was mentioned, for the floor repairs no finish is needed, but, a quick blast of black paint will do the trick. If I can ever seem to get back into a Z, and need it, POR15 will be what I use. I am sold on it. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/14155-rust-bullet/#findComment-104872 Share on other sites
December 13, 200420 yr comment_105024 Someone I have a great deal of respect for used to use POR 15 and now uses Zero Rust - even on his own projects. The only time he uses POR is if the customer insists... Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/14155-rust-bullet/#findComment-105024 Share on other sites
