steering wheel center horn thing

I know this 240z steering wheel has been on the forums a bit lately but...

I'am chasing a new (or better then mine) horn plastic round thingy that goes on to a '71 240z.

Does any one know if any others will fit-- ie 240k??

240K one will probably fit - I'm guessing most Datsun ones will... but if your car is truly stock as a rock, I'd really suggest to pay the extra and find a good original Z one. Why are you after a '72 horn pad if you have a '71 though???

damn my mistake-- i just sold my '72--- but i need the horn pad for my new '71..

my current one is the original '71 but the inside is a fairly butchered and doesnt like staying on-or for the horn to work

From this I gather that it has the typical early horn button damage: i.e. cracked / broken inside center plastic cap. The one that the ring on the horn button grips to allow the horn button assy, to "float" over the center column.

What is the condition of your OUTSIDE Vinyl. If it is acceptable, but just needs the inside fixed, you CAN do iit, with some 2 part epoxy / filler. Here in the U.S. we use JB Weld a lot. This is a product that mimics a real hard "ceramic" style metal filler. The two halves are black and off-white almost a pale yellow. When mixed they produce a gray toothpaste like putty.

Using a pair or more "zip-ties", which are those nylon self-locking straps, insert the strap on the foam side of the plastic inside cup, and tighten them until all pieces are just almost aligned. You need to get some glue in and behind there, so don't yank down fast. You can then glue all the pieces, and if necessary, even rebuild sections of the missing plastic. The intent is to restore that cap. If trimming is necessary, you can do it afterwards with a high speed hand tool. (U.S. we use a Dremel Tool, a 40k rpm hand held drill / sander / grinder )

I believe another member posted a picture essay on the subject, and if so, use the two to make your repair.

You are talking about the horn pad, right? Does yours have cracks in it that cause it to not stay where it belongs? If so you may be able to repair it. There is a thread (somewhere on the site) that details the process and even has pictures of the process.
