Posted December 4, 200420 yr comment_104187 I am needing to replace the bearings/etc. in the rear and am curious if anyone has done this. I dont NEED the CV half shafts but if they are smoother quieter or more reliable then I would like to do it now rather than in the future. (Someday I will have lots of hp but not right now) I have replaced everything on this car each time thinking I finally cured the clunks and noises but it just keeps getting worse and I cannot stand it any longer. It sounds like the rear end is falling out of the car everytime you hit a bump! This cannot be normal. It has always "clicked" when you back out of the driveway but now it is doing it during turning through a corner/etc. or just rolling forward at times. I feel convinced it is the rear bearings. Everything else has been replaced!Im a little scared to tackle this job myself after reading the haynes manual but I feel I can accomplish it. My main concern is the final torque. I read the post where another guy had issues with the free rotation after torquing it. So any advice for me? Do you think the ZXT half shafts are worth it? What is the best way to change the bearings? Thanks!Aaron(FYI, Id be using MM's adapters for the half shafts.) December 5, 200420 yr comment_104213 Sorry I cant help you there but have you changed the spindel pin bushings, or the moustash bar bushings. They can cause the clunking also. When I installed the R-200 I kept the 180 half shafts. I am no help there. I have a spindle pin puller to loan if you need it . December 5, 200420 yr Author comment_104251 Hi Gary,Thanks for the reply. Yes I have replaced those too. The rear bearing are the only things not replaced! I am not looking forward to doing it. Thanks also for the offer to borrow your pin puller. I may take you up on that! I destroyed them the first time and replaced them so I really dont want to do it that way again! December 5, 200420 yr comment_104253 I am going to be doing that in the near future, I have an '83 ZXT waiting for me to get to work on stripping the entire drivetrain from it to go into my '72. I the hope to start on it in next three weeks.
