Posted December 6, 200420 yr comment_104297 I purchased a paint code sticker from Banzai and I need to add the code "611" to it. What's the best method to do that? I want it to look close to factory. December 6, 200420 yr comment_104298 Look up a counterfeiter! You might try taking it to a small machine shop or woodworking shop. I'd think there are a bunch of furniture makers in your area. If you're a do-it-yourselfer, here's a punch set you might want to check this out. http://www.growinglifestyle.com/us/article/s0/a253565.html Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/14233-paint-code-sticker/#findComment-104298 Share on other sites
December 6, 200420 yr Author comment_104299 So it is stamped into the sticker. I could not tell on my original sticker. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/14233-paint-code-sticker/#findComment-104299 Share on other sites
December 6, 200420 yr comment_104301 I'm not able to check the sticker on my Z until Saturday. It's in California and I'm in Las Vegas during the week. I'll try calling a friend of mine today who has worked on Z's since 1970 to find out.P.S. I may have had a blonde moment in my original post. I was thinking of the door plate. :stupid: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/14233-paint-code-sticker/#findComment-104301 Share on other sites
December 6, 200420 yr Author comment_104302 I have the door plate intact. Just need to figure a way to put the "611" on my color sticker. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/14233-paint-code-sticker/#findComment-104302 Share on other sites
December 6, 200420 yr comment_104303 I think it's just black ink or paint. Here's an example:http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=7714&size=big&sort=1&cat=all Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/14233-paint-code-sticker/#findComment-104303 Share on other sites

December 6, 200420 yr comment_104309 Could you just make or buy a templet matching the numeral design and size and then just use black ink or paint? Just a thought.Vicky Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/14233-paint-code-sticker/#findComment-104309 Share on other sites
December 6, 200420 yr comment_104327 I think the way the numbers weere put on the foil labels were more like the way the P-touch stuff works. I would go to a laminator or a sign shop and ask them if they can help. I would consider laminating the label or something like that, so the writing doesn't get rubbed off. I lost the niumber off my AFM that way. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/14233-paint-code-sticker/#findComment-104327 Share on other sites
December 6, 200420 yr comment_104331 Could you just make or buy a templet matching the numeral design and size and then just use black ink or paintWhen you talk about a 'template' or stencil, I think of crates of Army stuff with those letters that look like they're all 'broken up.' I'm not sure you could use a stencil to print labels unless it's done via silkscreen transfer.what about a laser-printed, or etched, foil label? Is there such a thing? "Burning" the characters in would be more permanent & durable IMO, no?thx Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/14233-paint-code-sticker/#findComment-104331 Share on other sites
December 6, 200420 yr comment_104334 I think they were probably stamped by hand with a rubber stamp and black ink. Finding the right number height and proper font is going to be the biggest problem. The first step would be to find someone else with an original 611 sticker and get a high quality photo to go by. December 6, 200420 yr comment_104341 If memory serves me well, on the re-furbed 240Z, it looks like the paint code numbers were written rather than stamped. Anyone else have a engine bay shot of a "Vintage" Z so we can see how the paint code label was reproduced or restored?Vicky Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/14233-paint-code-sticker/#findComment-104341 Share on other sites
