Paint Code Sticker

I'm not able to check the sticker on my Z until Saturday. It's in California and I'm in Las Vegas during the week. I'll try calling a friend of mine today who has worked on Z's since 1970 to find out.

P.S. I may have had a blonde moment in my original post. I was thinking of the door plate. :stupid:

I think the way the numbers weere put on the foil labels were more like the way the P-touch stuff works. I would go to a laminator or a sign shop and ask them if they can help.

I would consider laminating the label or something like that, so the writing doesn't get rubbed off. I lost the niumber off my AFM that way.

Could you just make or buy a templet matching the numeral design and size and then just use black ink or paint

When you talk about a 'template' or stencil, I think of crates of Army stuff with those letters that look like they're all 'broken up.' I'm not sure you could use a stencil to print labels unless it's done via silkscreen transfer.

what about a laser-printed, or etched, foil label? Is there such a thing? "Burning" the characters in would be more permanent & durable IMO, no?

thx

I think they were probably stamped by hand with a rubber stamp and black ink. Finding the right number height and proper font is going to be the biggest problem. The first step would be to find someone else with an original 611 sticker and get a high quality photo to go by.

If memory serves me well, on the re-furbed 240Z, it looks like the paint code numbers were written rather than stamped.

Anyone else have a engine bay shot of a "Vintage" Z so we can see how the paint code label was reproduced or restored?
