December 10, 200420 yr comment_104723 Hey 5 speed, I too am 16. My parents dont care about driving because the car does not run ( it is a restoration project) Try to keep it, most kids our age don't understand these awesome cars. They just want stupid civics and celicas. As soon as I was old enough to understand I knew I would have to have one. Between my dad and me we have two 240zs, and I couldn't be happier. December 10, 200420 yr Author comment_104757 Saddly the idea of storing it won't work. I would have to pay around $100 bucks a month just to keep it, something I can't do. I don't have anywhere else to put it, like at my house. I see where you are coming from Dan, but the problem is, this would have to be a car that I depend on to get me through college. This car would be full time, something that I would need to depend on. My parents aren't too sure about that. They also want me to get something that is a little more safe. They weren't extremely hot on the idea of no airbags, no crumple zones, and the fact that the car is basically a tin can with wheels. My neighbor has a 71' 240Z, and my Dad and I talked to him about the idea. He said that he has been in two minor accidents with it, both times hitting someone from behind. The first time it punched a hole through the front of the car, and second time it wrecked the whole front of the car, with the entire bumper just falling off.I really appreciate all the advice, what my Dad and I are planning to do, is for me to get a older used RSX or something to get me through college, and then once I am out, to go back and restore a 240. So at least there is a 240Z in my future hopefully, it just might not be right now. December 10, 200420 yr comment_104776 Exactly! Don't fret, you're only young. Plenty of years to come..... that said, with the way prices are going for these cars, byu the time you finish college who knows how much it'll cost to buy one :stupid: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/14249-saddest-day/?&page=2#findComment-104776 Share on other sites
January 12, 200520 yr comment_108369 You live in OC same as Motorsport Auto! Your mechanic wasn't willing to look, AC and brakes there's no way it should take even a day to get the parts. I think you've been sold a bill of goods. Not to brag but I make enough to own a new 350Z but my 280Z is my daily driver by choice and with 257K+ miles its as dependable as you get. There are several Z specialist in your area. If you own a Z you should learn how to do simple repairs on it.Thanks for the advice guys, I am not giving up the dream. The main problem is that my dad has driven the car, and he loved it just as much as I did. It was almost as hard for him to give it up as for me. The main problem that they had with the car is the safety aspects, and the availabilty of the parts. We went with the Z to an auto mechanic who really knew the car, he had 3 240's alone. Mine needed air conditioning and some fixing up on the brakes. He was talking about a month to get the parts in stock, and that wasent good with my parents. The idea of the car getting stolen was also a heavy factor. I would be putting it on college campuses, which arent the greatest. The car would have been pretty nice, and a good target to get stolen, espically on the campuses. Also what if it breaks down? Don't I pretty much have to take it too a speciality shop? There are some in my area (Orange County, CA) but what about in different places, espically where I go to college. My Dad was the owner of an old Datsun Roadster, and It was just as hard for him to give up the Z.There is the problem, but thanks for the help. I hope to get a 240 after college. For me that is the current plan. The 300ZX is just a longing for a Z after the 240, that is all. The car does look alright, but insurance for a young driver on a late model would most likely be a problem, so I am kinda in a deadlock. But, once again thanks for the advice, I will keep going for that 240 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/14249-saddest-day/?&page=2#findComment-108369 Share on other sites

January 16, 200520 yr comment_108823 Sorry to hear that hopefully in your near future there will be another 240z. I just bought 71 z and its my second car. I believe with older cars its usually safer to have it as a second car. To keep as collectables. People out there do not get mad at me, but i do not think i can drive the z as a daily driver. I would be worry that it will break down and i will be late to work and the boss dont want to hear it when youre late. Parents always looking out for their kids best interest. I know you dont want to hear that but it will make sence when you get older. If youre that passionate about the Z you will get one. Might have to wait when youre 18 have a job or out of the house if you want it it will be yours. Just keep your head up.
