622 EDJ - 1971 Cal 240Z - help please

Hi Guys,

I have imported a structurally solid 1971 240Z from California to the UK to have the firewall replaced with a RHD one and for the car to go through a total bare shell restoration, literally nut and bolt at a time from the ground floor up.

The car will have an Edelbrock Performer SBC installed running 420BHP through a beautiful NISMO 3.9 LSD (courtesy of Alan, HS30-H)

My question is a plea for history ..........

Does any know of this car or remember it ? Has anyone owned it ? I would love to be able to track it from the dealership through each and every owner to myself - the intention is to document everything for a complete restoration and rebuild history.

Fingers Crossed...

Many Thanks

Hi Chris - my car is in a workshop approximately an hour and a half away, I will check and post the VIN number. Forgive my ignorance of USA licencing, it is different over here - can you trace the vehicle by the VIN ?

It is easier in the UK by the registration number (licence plate)

Many Thanks

Andy

License Plates can change any number of times for any number of reasons. Using the VIN is virtually the only way to "attempt" to trace vehicle ownership with any chance of success.

If the vehicle registration crossed state lines, it can be very difficult to succeed, but Good Luck anyway.

Thanks Victor - it's a start at least. I am trying to get some sense out of the California DMV but so far have not even been able to get through by phone, their email service is "auto response" so does not understand the questions.

The pink slip is in the post - do you guys have last registered owner on the pink slips ?

No, at least not in California. But there is a space on the pink slip for 'year first sold'. But sometimes there is a date there and sometimes it is just left blank. That is just one item on a long list of things that I have never understood about the California DMV system.
