It's a lovely museum isn't it? Nissan need something similar, but it probably won't be a reality until 2010.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but, wasn't the design of the 2000GT originally intended to be for the 240Z but was rejected by Nissan as being too expensive ???????????????

Oooh Rick let's not go there! The design I think you are referring to is the A550X, which was the car Goertz DID design. Take a look at the "History" section at www.zhome.com for more information about the whole kaboodle... very interesting stuff, just make sure to keep in mind it was written by American! :cheeky:

the 2000gt design is very similar, and yes, yamaha had been working on the engine with nissan first before nissan dumped the project. it was then that they teamed up with toyota and made the 2000gt.

anyway, the 2000gt os one of the most beautiful cars ever made, and because it has such a close relationship with the Z (cousins even?) i think this is definitely on topic.

Whatever! If this site can't even seem to agree that Skylines, 810s, ZXs, etc. are on topic then why worry about a Toyota. Just post it. No need to spend time discussing whether or not it's on topic. Especially when the logic is based on material that is questionable at best.

Oh Alfa, don't even go there. Goetrz designed the A550X? If you consider Designing a car, flying over once every month or two from the USA, spending a couple of days chatting with the design team that actually designed these cars and built the scale models, they flying back home to the USA, then yes he designed the car.

I'm sure Alan will have more to say on the subject.

So where are we now in this Toyota thread? Off topic? In which direction? The Goertz myth? American bashing? I would really just rather look at pictures of the cars. I'm done!

All the cars were of interest, there are too many to post! I never knew or cared that much for pre-70's cars but some of them were really beautiful. The musuem covered 3 floors and had arguably the worlds first car which was by a german manufacturer, USA's Ford Model T, Japans Toyota AA (which I posted), and just about everything in between from Japan and around the world including some cars with the coal fuel conversion due to lack of oil in the war. There was basically the first model ever produced from most manufacturers and some manufacturers that never really made it.

I am in the middle of backing up 3 months worth of photos onto my PC from my work laptop, so bare with me.

I think I have the first skyline in there somewhere, and one of my favourties for some reason was also the Mitsubishi colt galant GTO.

No worries, I'll email them across when I get a chance, hotmail's 250MB storage is handy. Unfortunatley I had a big day and only a 64MB memory stick so I had to reduce the camera fill size. Original photos are only 30% bigger and slightly higher resolution, but they are still OK. I bought a new camera and 256MB stick but unfortunately after the museum.

Sorry, I didnt realise the difference.

Its a great museum, really opened my eyes and respect for the earlier cars.

Nissan would never have the resources Toyota have to aquire such rare cars from all over the world, I went to several Toyota exhibition/museums around Japan, many of which were free and simply contained exibits on recent designs, technologies and future projects along with current models on display.

I arrived home yesterday after 3 months and am already contemplating which country I should spend next year in.
