December 14, 200420 yr comment_105128 From where on the transmission is it leaking? There isn't supposed to be any coolant in the transmission ... December 14, 200420 yr Author comment_105134 Thats what i thought, not antifreeze in the tranny, but it is always damp and has little green drops on it. I'll try and take a pic here in a min. The rest of the engine is dry. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/14325-coolant-leaking-from-tranny/#findComment-105134 Share on other sites
December 14, 200420 yr Author comment_105138 here are a few shots of the front of the tranny, and of the side. sorry about the bad shots. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/14325-coolant-leaking-from-tranny/#findComment-105138 Share on other sites
December 14, 200420 yr comment_105139 Freeze plugs on the rear of the engine? That wouldn't be good news since the tranny would have to come out to replace them. December 14, 200420 yr comment_105143 Green is anti-freeze. You will need to CAREFULLY examine the entire rear part of the engine, preferably while the engine is warm and cooling sytem has pressure built up (but not necessarily with the engine running). It is the engine cooling system that is leaking somewhere. It could be (just to name a few things):a heater hosethe metal pipe that goes around behind the engine to provide Intake/carb coolant.a Freeze plug (may not be one of the ones visable without removing the trans)a head gasket leak (seep) at rear of engineTake your time, be thorough and you should be able to find the source. December 14, 200420 yr comment_105144 I was going to say freeze plug, but Carl offers more insight. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/14325-coolant-leaking-from-tranny/#findComment-105144 Share on other sites
December 14, 200420 yr comment_105155 Well, I said freeze plug because in the pictures it appeared to be coming from inside the mounting plate. If it was coming from the other mentioned sources wouldn't you be able to see evidence of coolant leaking on the mounting plate instead of just at the bottom? December 14, 200420 yr comment_105159 Yes. The pictures only show the bottom of the engine (which is filthy, dude) and if the leak was from a hose, tube, or head gasket, the top of the engine would be wet. I haven't had the time to get the underside cleaned yet. Most of that is dirt build up because it is always wet. That oil you see around the spout on the pan is not a leak, i just changed the oil 2 days ago and it was really windy, blowing it about everywhere.
