R200 Lsd

FYI, I just ordered a new clutch type LSD for my R200. I ordered it from Precision Gear p/n (LOM59-12) (ph# 734 946 0524) at $602.95....I should have it 12/22/04.

Since this LSD carrier is for a 12mm bolt set-up, I ask them about using spacers to fill the gap when installing it on an R200 with 10mm bolts. I was told they are not necessary! They have done a number of race cars without the spacers and have had no issues. They said that the clamping force of the bolts is what secures the ring gear to the carrier and that the 1mm radial gap is nothing to be concerned about....the ring gear will not move if the bolts are properly torqued. However, if you do decide to use spacers, be very sure they are not too long! If they are you will be torqueing the bolts against the spacer and not the carrier....this will be a problem. The guy at Precision Gear (Tim) seamed very informed, was pleasant and very helpful!

Anyway, I will finally have a LSD for my 240Z....I was getting so tired of the inside tire cutting loose coming out of tight corners. I should have it in for the new year!!! :D

Vicky, thanks for the congrats! Yah, I suppose I owe myself a Christmas present.....besides, who in the world would buy me a LSD as a present? As a bachelor I have to fend for myself you know!

ZHeadV8, your absolutely correct!!! It will be interesting to see how much additional push I will get through the corners with the LSD!

Ed, Are you surprised that a clutch type LSD carrier will bolt right in? Is there something that makes you think it won't? This LSD upgrade is a pretty common deal. If I had more $$$ to throw at it, I would have prefered a Quaife unit! A Quaife will bolt right in as well. I believe even the viscous LSD bolts right in.

Yah guys, its just a matter of changing out the carrier (the part the ring gear bolts to). Now of course you have to install new bearings and install the ring gear on the LSD carrier! And, recheck your tolerances. This goes for most differentials however, I'm sure there are exceptions to this rule. Regarding gear lube....it is highly recommended (by a lot of racers) to use SWEPCO 201. It even has a GL5 and MT1 rating....this means is compatible with clutch type LSD. You don't have to add limited slip additives to the lube, as you would with regular gear lube. Just some food for thought! :D
