I've been talking to a guy who makes carbon fiber and fiberglass - whatever

you want basicly. I'm gonna have him make the center console in carbon to

start with. But I don't think it's gonna stop there. When he mentioned hoods

he's made that weigh 1.5 Kilograms, how could I not be tempted?

Anyway - the parts I have in mind (maybe) getting are these:

Hood

Doors

Rear hatch

Front fenders

Wishbones (either Carbon or Chrome Moly)

Front/rear spoiler + side skirts

Do you have any suggestions/interests on/in other parts? Once the molds

have been made it wouldn't be entirely impossible to make some more for

you guys. Not sure of pricing yet - but probably a bunch cheaper than the

prices I've seen - like US$1300 for a pair of cr-mo wishbones or US$1200

for a hood, etc.

So, if you're interested - let me know what you're interested in.

My car is a '71 240z and that's what the molds will be made from...

The process is somewhat of a secret, but the result is a lot like pre-preg

carbon - light and tough. A layer of kevlar is also included to prevent the

carbon from shattering if you're in an accident.

How about fenders and headlight buckets?

Rear Spoiler (factory type).

That about covers it. Everything else that you could get made has been said already. Ohh maybe CF ZG noses.

You could corner the european market, sounds like the US market is pretty full.

Shipping and tariffs will likely make it not cost effective since most of this stuff is already available in the US.

I can probably ship it though a speedshop that a friend of mine runs.

They have a very good discount on UPS shipping SWE > US...

The price for a CF cowl-plate would be approx. US$370-400... (Spirit Garage charge US$560

assuming this is it: http://s-garage.hp.infoseek.co.jp/buhinsyasin/04.jpg ?)

Plate will be made for LHD 240z. Sorry all aussies and brits.

That's the only quote I got for now. More to come.

dudes there is a guy on hybrids(Vintage-Tech-z) who makes carbon parts. His dash is only 270 bux and tailight panels and zg flares run 180. 1300 for a hood is rediculous when you can already get em for 750

Please read post #14, or have someone read it to you. I'm NOT asking

for people making parts alreay. I'm asking for parts that you want to

have made from CF. Thanks.

Yeah, and I can see people can write enough crap with their two hands to have my two eyes read it and have my one brain draw the conclusion that what I read was not what I asked for.

I can't see any issues regarding my reaction in this case. I asked a simple

question. If I wanted to know something else - I would've asked for it.

Posting OFFTOPIC is naturally the perfect example of how to behave on

a board. Sorry I must've missed out on that info when registering.

Regarding my attitude: I assume you know the people posting their

sales pitches since you appear teary eyed from my nonchalant replies.

Why don't all of you (who think your carbon parts are the best) start

your own thread? I could come tell you all about growing raspberries

or something - as that would have as much connection to the topic

as your posts in this thread.

I speak my mind - so sue me...

You're the one that brought up the prices you've seen for carbon fiber parts elsewhere. So, if others write in with prices on the same parts that you talked about in your thread, such as hoods made of carbon fiber IT IS NOT "OFF TOPIC." Especially if they are half the price you are talking about (refer to your own thread starting first post).

About your idea to post various carbon fiber parts to have produced, it is a good one and I thank you for starting the thread. Let's just agree to disagree on the attitude thing. I think carbon fiber hoods, rear spoilers, even fender flares are a good idea. How about reproductions of the early, Series 1 and 2 consoles? Door panels and other interior panels would be interesting. Just a few thoughts. Happy New Year!

it seems to me the doors, hood, wiper motor cover plate, and rear hatch would save the most weight, you think? Just a ballpark, maybe 150 pounds? Maybe more? I know I'd be interested in a front nose splitter (that attaches below the air dam). Too bad you have a 240z, I have a 260z, otherwise i could get some sweet CF parts.

It's a long story (and longer thread). Was posted elsewhere on here. You might try a search to see if it is still available. Makes for some interesting reading. But it is (or was) a subject for another thread.

I like your post, and your attitude for that matter ;)

I might come off as sour as a lemon, I'm not - I'm just annoyed by people

going "Hey, there's this guy who makes it..." I really don't care about that

since I have a sponsor, and wouldn't mind sharing the molds made.

I'm having the entire doors made from carbon fiber - not just the sides.

Interior panels might come into interest, since some of mine are cracked.

Not sure if there's much gain in making these from CF instead of fiber glass.
