Z fans,

Lately, I’m having trouble starting up my Z…(fuel injected)

Every morning, it takes about 5 to 10 minutes just to get the Z running…the engine would turn over but after I turn the ignition, it dies. I would have to pump the gas pedal every time I turn the ignition until I can get the engine to rev high. Once the engine is warm or running, the problem disappears…Purchased 2 bottles of fuel injector cleaners but no luck…I’m wondering, could it be my fuel filter or dirty fuel injectors??

Need your input please... no time and money to spend extra cash for a mechanic to check.

Thanks,

Cel

Yes, and yes. Check the fuel filter first.

I'm not saying that I'm a pro at EFI, but, I just got my first Z with EFI a few months ago.

My problem was traced down to a bad fuel pump. But, I had to go through the whole system just to find it.

Start at the basics and replace the filter. You should also check to see if you have fuel pumping by asking someone to hold the rubber tube (that comes from the filter) away from the car while you crank it.

The fuel pump should come on when you are turning the car over. You should see gas squirt out the hose.

And, do not pump the pedal. In fact, I've heard that pumping or holding the gas pedal down while you try to crank an EFI system can be damaging to the system.

You might need to push the pedal all the way to the floor at least once (not while cranking) so you can get the system into 'cold start' mode....

But, I am still new to the EFI.

The fuelpump has in it a check valve that keeps the pressure on the fuelsystem. When they go bad they allow the pressure to gradually(overnight in your case)bleed off.Trying to start it in the morning means the pump has to repressurize the line so it has enough pressure to pop open the injectors. The rest of the day your fine because the leak is very slow.Put a pressure guage on the fuel system and check it in the morning, then during the day and odds are you'll see your problem.I don't know if there are internal and external check valves for various years. You may ask nissan about your year. All good suggestions, I'll add one more. Check the electrical connection and operation of the thermo time switch. It is lockated next to the water temperature sensor. Without this operating the fuel injection will not go into cold start mode thereby affecting the cold start valve etc.
