Sometimes it idels rough when i go to stoplights. So i put it in neurtal and give it gas. Now its iddling fine. But the problem is that it stutters going down the road around 50. No throtle response when it does. I loose power then it goes normal again. Thanks for your help in advance.Jesse
Coastieee240z Posted December 31, 2004 Share #2 Posted December 31, 2004 Uhmm sounds exactly like when my points started going. Check your point gaps in the distributor. I would make sure those are properly gapped before screwing with the timing or dwell any. Hope that helps. P.S. If that doesn't do it for you check your cap/rotor, coil, plug wires and or spark plugs.
sblake01 Posted December 31, 2004 Share #3 Posted December 31, 2004 Coastieee240z, 75 280Z=no points. Check the cap/rotor etc. but also check the temp sensor, thermotime switch/cold start valve, etc.
bonzer991 Posted December 31, 2004 Author Share #4 Posted December 31, 2004 I changed my spark plugs. Also i took the cap off and notice some lite surface rust on the rotor. I sanded that off. Its been runing alot smoother.thanks jesse

I always here the "you gotta get a zx distributor and say goodbuy to points" I never hear of regular z distributors having no points.

I always here the "you gotta get a zx distributor and say goodbuy to points" I never hear of regular z distributors having no points. All 280Z models, 1975-1978, had electronic (pointless) distributors. Even some of the earlier cars had a similar ignition. I'm not sure if it's the later 240Z and the 260Z or just the 260Z. Someone will have to help me out there.

If there are just scrape them clean with a knife or other sharp tool. Another place to look is at the plug wires where they plug into the top of the cap. Pull one out and see if it's clean inside , do this to all 6 but one at a time so you don't mix them up. I know that is basic but I have known people that have done it . If the plug wires are good and all the connections are as well , being it is an injected engine I cannot help any ferther. Sorry But from what you describe it does sound like ignition.
