HELP!!! fuel pump wiring harness

O.K. I'm not sure how much this will help but it will get us looking in the right direction (hopefully). The common fuel pump wire seems to be solid green.

Picture one; Starting at the relay cluster, there is one harness attached to two relays.

Picture two; This harness has an inline fuse that I'm holding. On mine the inline fuse says "FUEL PUMP". This harness goes towards the center console.

Picture three; The harness plugs into a plug attached to a cluster of plugs that go to the choke & brake light that is on the center console above the fuse box.

Halfway in this harness are two wires (black & white) that plug into a harness that goes to a short harness that is in between the voltage regulator and the engine bay wireing harness.

Confused? I am.

I too am installing a new electric fuel pump on my 73 240Z and I'm trying to find the physical location of the inline fuse holder. I have found an inline fuse holder in the center console near the fuse box and it has a solid green wire on one end and a black/white one on the other....Is this the correct fuse holder?

By the way I'm finally getting around to replacing the dealer installed electric fuel pump which died years ago and I too forgot where the correct wiring was... I do have the correct wires in the back of the car near where the original fuel pump was...However, I am not getting any voltage there when the ignition switch is in the ON position...So I'm wondering if there are other connections in between.

the wiring for the original pump runs across the top of the gas tank, you may want to check to see if you have any broken connections there. the inline fuse for the fuel pump on my car is near the fuse box.

I have a 73, it's been awhile. I remember something about the electric fuel pump not having voltage until after the engine is running started by the manual fuel pump.

Engine running is sensed/switched by oil pressure. Perhaps the relay mentioned earlier in this string is related to the lack of voltage?

Hey Ed.

Do you have a photo of the last part of the wiring harness between the voltage reg and the engine bay harness. I am trying to hook up my elec fuel pump and I can not figure out how it connects from the relays in the cockpit to the wiring harness. The photos you showed worked wonders, but I need more detail. It looks that there is a wiring harness that connects to the relays and runs into the engine bay, but from there I do not know where to hook to the harness. Here are some photos.

So...am I to understand that there is a relay that controls the voltage to the fuel pump. If so, what activates the relay and can anyone identify which one it is? I do have a oil pressure sensor but not an oil pressure switch. And I assume that the oil pressure sensor just drives the oil pressure guage?

I don't see any such relay in any schematics.

I measured 12 volts at the in line fuse contacts when the ignition switch was in the on position (assuming I had the correct in line fuse). But the voltage was not getting to the connector in the back which plugs into the fuel pump. But like Nahurry said, maybe there is some bad wiring along the way.....and I will check this out....
