Steering detail

G'Day there Lachlan,

I recently completed the Nissan Fairlady 240Z by Fujimi europa.

Main problem was that a lot of the instructions were in Japanese however, the instructions included a painting chart and each part to be painted had a paint symbol and chart number. Made it quite simple really.

Main disapointment, as with many models, is that after taking a lot of time and care with the engine, the bloody bonnet doesn't open, you can't see the power plant, so engine detailing is a waste of bloody time.

I've only recently gotten back into model building after a break of about 40 years. They haven't changed all that much.

How far do you go with engine detailing????????

While I haven't bothered recently, I used to go to the trouble of using coloured sewing thread for spark plug leads etc.

Rick.

Hi Rick,

Care to upload a picture or two of it?? I'm sure many would be interested to see how your model looks :classic:

The instructions on this one are English (well, Engrish) and are very detailed and easy to follow. There are just a lot of parts. There are little hints to tell you what colour to paint things but I think it is missing a bit of detail. But that just means it's more fun to add in your own

A pity your model does not let the bonnet open  is the bonnet a separate piece? You could always just not glue it down if so.

This model has spark plug leads included, so no need to get mum's sewing kit out! LOL I would recommend this kit to you - detail to the extreme here.

BTW, does anyone have a picture of a stock gear lever mechanism? Like the one in the attached picture?

Hmm, does anyone know whether the little bolts on the sump should be black or coloured (see pic)? From your picture Chris it looks like they should be plain metal (silver), is that right?

I also searched the gallery and found a picture of a petrol tank with an "inspection sticker". I'm guessing that this is not a factory sticker? Kmack are you here?

I have to say that I looked at one of the pics and wondered where you got a scale model vacuum cleaner to look that realistic and then realized it was a "real" restored 240!

Anyway, my Dad does quite a bit of model building and he buys stuff from a store here in Meuthan, MA that sells engine detail and wheel kits. They include wires, braided hose, plugs, etc. I will check with him tomorrow and post the info on the shop. I believe they have a website. Nice work.

Ooh, braided hoses!! This one just has rubber tubes, which look good but not perfect. It does have plugs and wires though :) I'm experimenting with writing the little letters on the wires.. I think it's too small to do properly though so they might end up just plain. I would greatly appreciate if you could ask your father about the shop, even if for nothing more than to check out their website!! :classic:
